What an experience--My goal was just to finish and without injury.. That's a long ride and add the mud...very interesting. I was so tired by the second lap and really thought I was in last place. I had no idea. I was fooling around, talking to Homer Simson, and putting mud pies in his eyes...Towards the end, a girl who I knew was a ways behind me came up.. We chatted a bit on the road and she passed me... Big deal, lassssst place Ha Ha. When I got to the finish and heard 4th--I was shocked and happy. But then pissed at myself for not taking 3rd. Lesson Learned. Great day!!!

See! and you were all worried and stuff... congratulations! you did an awesome job.

I am glad that I pre rode so I knew what I would be dealing with. three days up there in perfect conditions..... thrown right in the crapper with all the mud, trucked on through, dealt with the mud the best i could and enjoyed pretty much every minute of it. Glad to meet a lot of you yahoos from here too.
Reggie, youre a damn trooper sir! I would have cashed out last Sunday after that nasty crash. Thank you again for getting me here on many levels and I owe you!
Matt, and Patty thanks for all the pushing and help that youve given, served me well. 🙂
Overall, as this being my first race, I was nervous as hell at first, but I quickly focused and accomplished way more than I had set out to do.
I won my own race today!
Thanks to Darkhorse Cycles and to everyone for the cool time today.

Good times today! This was my first "real" race and my only goal was to finish and I did. I may have been almost at the bottom, but I finished. Conditions were less than ideal but I made it without breaking my body or my bike so that's a plus.

Great to see so many friends out today and congrats to everyone that was there. Thanks to the DH crew for a great day.

Myself, Capers and Chainsaw came here afterwards to clean up, I think I have half of Stewart Forest in my front yard.

Good times!

Thanks To darkhorse for putting on such a great race! More than worth the 4 hr drive! Awesome job out there everyone as well!

So last year 22nd place, this year 6th, next year I smell podium 😉

i bet you will,congrats!😉
and nice to meet you WW.🙂

I'll do a full recap in my useless blog but...

I ended up 16th out of 50 something in sport. all I wanted to do was finish and I guess I got the bonus plan. I'm really happy especially considering last year I was 47th. A little more work and with any luck I may challenge for a spot at the top.

Oh, and I beat pinkmonkey boy by a 1/2 hour too. 😀

I fared much better than I expected in my Cat 1 opener...26 out of 47. Ill have to add some more details later, but right now, my GF is about to perform minor eye surgery. My eyes are so swollen and filled with crap, I can seriously barely see....I need an i-flush

Congrats Joe for your Cat 1 opener and to all the racers who braved the weather and the trail condition this morning. Liong, congrats on making the top ten in South/NJ. 😉

My eyes are sore and my body hates me. That was a lot of effort to push thru those conditions. I tried to stick to the rear of the Vandbtriver train with Jake, Jeremy but fell off by a few minutes. I feel good about the 10lbs I dropped and work I did over the winter. Who knows maybe a few top 10s are in my future in the H2H series. BTW I'm wondering how many out of the top 10 had a suspension fork?

Eyes hurting? Try this...

Excellent job everyone, you make me wish I was there.

Rinse your eyes with a camomile tea wash. Make sure you have pure camomile, no mint or lemon or crap(get dried flowers from the HFS or use stash or bigelow bags), steep the tea and allow it to cool or get close to room temp. Pour into a small cup or shot glass, cup it over your eye, tilt your head and blink to wash the eye.

It's safe(ophthalmologist recommended for my 3 month old son), will clean the crud, soothe the eyes, take the red out and kill the little germies swimming around in there from riding in that cesspool.

So you're the guy I was trying to reel in almost the whole second lap, you guys passed me in major mike when I got off my bike and walked a section when my legs cramped up. Followed you and a couple Marty's almost the whole second lap but my legs wont let me push hard enough to close the gap, got to stricking distance on one of the power climbs but lost you again, then there goes the finish line, I finished right behind you, 17th. Great work out there.
Rode prologue section in the second lap with RNG1, man, you're worse than me knowing where we are in the course. Awesome day in the woods and to kick off the racing season. See you all in Wayway.

I learned one thing yesterday. DO NOT wash your dirty bike and clothes in the driveway, you are better off doing it in the grass. What a fucking mess my driveway is....

On to my race, everything was going great until 5 mins after the start  At that point I realized I had to change my strategy from "better than last year" to DFL...and I was pretty close but PEARL had to go ahead and screw that by having a flat! 😀

Considering my lack of bike time due to the injury and work, I knew I was going to suffer and my main goal was to not blow up....I had no power on my legs and rather than trying to keep up and burn out in the first 5 miles, I decided to let everyone pass me and keep an easy pace good enough to finish just in time for the ceremony.

I have a long way to go, but hopefully my job schedule will allow me to work out some during the week.

So, I came in at 50. Hell, I like even numbers.

Another thing, OCTAGON is back in the drawer and not coming back. I should've sticked with REY MISTERIO 🙄

Nice to see everybody and put some new faces to screen names.

Good race Dustin, it was good to ride with you, Jake, and Jeremy as well. I think the pace we set was as close to red lining as one could go. It was fun establishing decent position after starting near the back of the pack. Our race would have been a lot more disappointing if we were trying to spin w/ the 32x17ers in the front imo, I know I would've ended up crippled on the side of the trail somewheres. On the topic of the suspension fork, it's tough to say who had the advantage. I would hate to be chuggin along on that long peanut butter climb with a bobbin' front fork, then again, my momentum was stuffed in few spots because I didn't have a buttery front end:hmmm:

I guess the suspension thing is personal/budget preference. As far as starting in the back we did get stuck behind a few slower racers and with the constant reminder in our heads not to grenade it was ok. I may be foggy on this but I only remember passing a handful of riders out on the course I think the move was made on the first trip up the fire road. I think.
