Singlespeed-a-polooza

went to Halter's today to get some stuff and J noiticed the frame was cracked too (2small ones up behind the seat post on the triangle welds). i did the race on half a bike

WOW....what a fun, yet painful day yesterday was. Banged up ribs, bruised spleen, and a bit under the weather didn't keep me from the fun, but did help me drop the the back of the pack quickly. Being a bit sick definately caused the dehydration factor, which led to major cramping throughout the entire 2nd lap. Stopped to help a downed rider and another with a flat also lowered my time. Ended up 53 out of 54 which is far less that what my goal was....especially since the only one I passed was Pearl who was walking...LOL.

All in all, it was a great way to break my cherry in the race world. I learned A LOT yesterday which will help me in all future races.

Thank you Dark Horse for putting together a great event. So many good people there; great to re-connect with those Jersey folks I've met through this site.

A note from the mayor

To all the SSAP contestants...thank you a million times over for your devoted support of our events! Any one who raced yesterday under those conditions has our never ending admiration for your dedication to the sport. Over the years, we have begun to see many familiar faces, and the comments before, during and after our races is traditionally highly complimentaary. We make a total commitment to trying to give you the best we can, and as long as you continue to enjoy our efforts, we will try and come up with ideas to make your racing experience as memorable as possible. I guarantee no one will ever forget last year's Gallop, and SSAP 2010 has become a "chafalicious" epic memory that we're sure is making many aware of the after effects of gravelly, wet chamois! Thanks for racing..."The Mayor"

holla atcha boy

i felt bad for Mandi having to wait 3 days for you to cross the finish line. there were reports of your death starting to surface and she was like "well if he's dead do i have to wait here anymore?" i told her "listen...he's not dead just really really slow" ahahahahahha sucks that Soundz gave you the broken pump he gave 2 other guys empty Co2's when they had flats and im told he had tubes with holes in them for anyone else that was in need of trail side help

Had a blast out there and still trying clean all that mud out of my eyes:cry:

Ilya was the man in Sport and beat me with one arm and leg tied behind his back and riding the 2nd lap on a unicycle after downing 3 beers!!! Couldn't believe it after the first lap when I asked how far in front he was and they said 6 minutes:getsome:

Good god that was hell! But a whole of fun meeting folks along the way (preride and during). That was my 6th mtb (no road) ride since Thanksgiving--can't believe I finished. I was making some pretty good personal time, but hit a serious wall before mile 20--had to take a break and eat a cliff bar! Could barely move after that...just enough to finish. I have some serious conditioning to do (already thinking of getting a road bike for the days I can't make it to the trails). Dustin, Pearl, Sounds and the rest of folks I talked to and met on the trail, it was a pleasure... looking forward to future rides.

i just saw it at shoprite liquors in ledgewood. going to grab myself some next time i swing by there.

yes yes but what specific kind was we drinkin? that was some tasty beverages. driving to Shoprite liquors in Ledgewood riiiiiight........NOW! hurry what is it! 😀

Was good running into you foxtrot. We should ride more together, you're pretty close to me.

I think your bonking probably had to do with all the mud. I was hurting a lot more after the race than I did doing a couple of pre-rides in the dry.

After I got home I found I had ridden most of the race with my rear brakes half engaged (sticky piston). So I was pretty much done after the 1st single track into the gravel road. During the race I was like my rear wheel is so heavy from all the mud .. then when I got home and cleaned off the bike I was like what the hell?! That and running nanoraptors didn't help too much 😉 No complaints though .. was a great time .. and will be better prepared for next time.

The Terrapin Beer--is this the beer that was in the middle keg (I think there were three)? If so, what was the exact type (IPA?) Oh, man...as soon as it hit the lips. Actually, when i went to bed last night I was thinking more about how good the beer was rather than the race. If I weren't running on empty and had to drive home, I would have finished it off!

Ha! Payback for the times you crushed me in Cross!!

Good job out there Myles.
