Trail Reports

the frayed ends of sanity (located just four.five miles from stephens and four.eight from the waterloo lot, as the crow flies) has approximately 1"-2" of fluff.

This is supposed to be trail reports. Not "the view from my couch."

Both Lewis Morris and Patriot's Path have an inch or so. Conditions are very good.

I rode Ringwood this morning without studs. Zero new snow. There is a light dusting in north facing areas from earlier in the week, and plenty of ice flows on the roads. Riding conditions were quite good as long as you avoided the roads that get icy. If you plan to ski, go south cause not much up here.

According to customers, Chimney Rock was good this morning. 4" of light fluffy snow. Not sure how that has changed.

from the horse's mouth:

Same here a little farther north of you--not a single snowflake (yet) up here by Mahlon Dickerson. 'Still a little on the ground from earlier in the week; that is it.

Revised forecast is calling for 1/2" to 1", but looking at the radars, it is entirely feasible we won't get even that 😀

I rode 6MR from 27 rt to S Middlebush and then a half of the white trail. I'd say it is very nice under trees and a bit challenging on open space.

That's only because 5 guys went out ahead of your to break the trail.

my front wheel drifts less on fresh untouched snow... so that is not easier... at least for me

sorry, 5 guys are not enough to pack the trail

and in the twisties have have only 2-3 inches

Allamuchy North was in perfect condition. .5" of snow at best with fast tundra like conditions. Good to Go!!

Allamuchy and KVSP have at most a dusting to an inch. The Paulinskill Rail trail and Sussex Branch trail have varying amounts from no snow to 2 inches in sections.

February 6, 2010 -Chimney Rock Rd

Saw probably two tire tracks on the trail. It was my first time riding in snow and the snow was probably around 4" evenly throughout the trails (red and white) couple of people wanted to 'see' how a MTB rides in snow and I told them its 3X worse since you are constantly looking for traction.

Played with the tire pressure setting (went in with 35 psi) and it was more slip and slide, dropped it to 25psi and then to around 20psi and 25psi seem to give me better grip........... like 10% Traction. Fell twice, scraped my calf in one location, pushed the bike up on certain uphills, but still went around the reservoir. Also met a nice man in the parking lot on the half way point and told him about MTBNJ.com 😉
