he was the only one interested in fighting, im pretty sure the rest of us were just trying to hold back laughter so he wouldnt lash out physically

I always have 2 pairs of 12 oz boxing gloves in my car for cross-training days. Anyone wants to go I'm game; they can have the gloves, I won't throw a punch.

In my very much earlier post, I alluded to the fact that, yes, there have been an increased number of less considerate people out there. Politically fueled? There are assholes on all sides.

While I agree Americans in general have an entitlement problem, in my experience those who express those feelings are more often than not vehemently anti-communist/socialist. The more conservative they are, they more they only care about themselves.

Please keep in mind that my comment doesn't strictly apply to politics.

I'm glad you specified that is your experience, as my experience is exactly the opposite of yours. Unfortunately, we tend to form very strong opinions based on our personal experiences which by definition are limited and possibly (but not necessarily) incorrectly representing the object of our opinion.

With regards to Americans having an entitlement problems, and being a foreigner, I would say that is mostly true about younger generations. Again, my personal experience and mostly based on the workplace. Yes, I'm old. Now go ahead and tell me that kids these days are so good and generous...

I am sitting at a gate in the airport waiting on a delayed plane. Somebody spice it up!

I think its more a point of people reaching the end of their tether vs. over-saturation. Once the local non-riding population starts complaining, you've reached that point, and its hard to bring them back to your side.

I would agree with this more if the locals who are complaining were the majority but i think in this case it gets a bit tricky. These 3 property owners out of many have allowed 10+ years of direct economic growth in their area by letting this bike park thrive, and in turn, many many other family businesses to thrive and open. I have never been there, but from what im reading, it seems the entire town was basically enjoying the benefits of the local attraction, kind of like mtn creek by us.

Now, these 3 people are going to potentially destroy the lively hood of hundreds of people. Is this really fair? Im surprised they arent being shunned out of the area for this.

On the other hand, no, i dont think they should ever be forced to do anything by anyone because it is their land. UNLESS of course they signed a contract. Thats what they should of done so no 1 or 3 people can ruin it for everyone in the community. Charge more, take a cut, deal with a couple douches. its just part of life.

it was rather entertaining. He rode with us for a bit, but we were a stick-together group, so he took off, and i wished him well.
(he joined us at hawk watch @ CR) - i chatted him up about Why so many MTBers. Next time i see him, he tells me what an ass the leader of the other group is.
I know that can't be @jimvreeland, so it had to be @shrpshtr325. My canned response - That's Bill, he's always like that. We tolerate him. :D

PS - he said he liked me, and i was a good leader for keeping the group together. I know from riding with y'all, if ya want to keep a group together,
put me in front. (this would be a very left handed compliment - think about it.)

Having been a "tourist" up in VT for the last 30 years, and being friends with many locals, and transplants who are now locals, you need to understand the locals a bit. There was/is always a bit of a mild undercurrent of resentment running in the far background towards tourists. This is probably true for most tourist areas, and the Burke area has been a tourist area well before the MTB explosion. Sure, tourists bring in a lot of revenue, and in many cases the reasons why some of these towns even have an economy, but are also a source conflict. Its all pretty unavoidable. I don't think you can compare this to Creek because the tri-state area where we live is one of the biggest economies in the country, and this type of economic scale does not exist in New England. Suffice it to say, you should always try to be a positive embassador from NJ, because just about everyone from a neighboring state (or country) up there has a stereotype to live down.

Now I don't know the details about how these 3 land owners came to this decision (aside from the horse incident), but its highly likely that it wasn't in a vacuum, they spoke to each other or someone else first. No one does this type of thing without some type of support from their peers, so the challenge up there will be to address this now, before it spreads in the coming years. The folks who live up there know how to handle this type of thing, they've been dealing with this for years, so I'm fairly confident they'll work it out eventually.

I keep going back to this map - if this sticks this will decimate the whole park system. This would basically kill KT for the next few years to the point I'm not sure it could recover. This map is the meat of where 75% (or more) of the people ride. By doing this you cut 1 large trail system into 4 pieces, remove 4 of the best trails, and make people ride the road to connect them.

That will also make road issues exponentially worse.

Also on the map - there are 3 boxes which I assume translates to 3 landowners. The small one is a non-issue so you're probably dealing with 2 major land owners here. One thing that came to mind yesterday is the amount of press that dude Norman got for the Moose Haven trails. I mean he and his wife were in the video and they were almost touted as heros. Is it possible that the 2 people up there who own the red boxes were stung a bit by this? I mean, the guy who owns the parcel of land with the 3 Ts should probably have a statue erected in his honor.

navigating around these 2 parcels of land is gonna suck, let alone the loss of some truly awesome trails in the closed sections.

Sorry but if I were told to F**k Off by someone while riding my horse on my land I would just put a fence around the property and be done with it. Or a machine gun nest. Or both.

this was my worst fear, the lack off trail etiquette has always been a concern. Access was touch and go at Wiss in the 90s because of similar concerns. The small minority screws things up for others whether it be riding trails when conditions are poor or lack of respect for other trail users. KTA needs to make a quick, short video about trail etiquette and you need to watch it when you buy your pass. Will it slow things down checking in, too bad as a group this one is on us. East Burke can't afford to lose more trails. And yes I realize people will still do what they want but maybe a few will learn to respect others
