where did i go?

hey MIG - it sounds like this whole eye thing just flat out sucks. get better soon. i have had bouts with anxiety. it blows. i'm with sixseven. remain calm. worrying doesn't fix anything. positive vibes.

it almost sounds like you should be on a 'house' episode.

good to hear the tests did not show anything bad...
I had a brain scan once it showed nothing...... 🙂

Hope this thing does heal itself and everything turns out ok.
I think you should keep the eye patch though, it seems to work with the whole MIG thing.

Maybe Marty can stop by and keep you company and share his  with you.

Hang in there, keep your spirits high.

i hope you feel better and will heal naturally ..

I had a condition called polymyositis which is when the immune system goes nuts and starts attacking your muscles and the muscles get inflamed and deteriorate. I know someone with MS and I guess that is when the immune system attacks the nerves. Normally for my condition they prescribe immunosupressing anti-inflammatory corticosteroids like prednisone. That worked for me for the post part. I don't know if that relates to what you're going through, but thought I'd mention it if it can help. PM me if you want more details.

It's one of the reasons why I got into mountain biking .. to rebuild my muscles and get strong physically & mentally.

I know two people who've had this condition, both have gotten better. Think positive, and relax.....stress and anxiety certainly don't help. Hope you're back to uh...normal... soon and back on the trails.

yeah corticosteroids are the only treatment for this condition as well. i see my opthamologist again on monday and i think he has to write me the prescription for that treatment. did you have any side effects from the treatment?

yeah im trying to stay at my best man but its easier said than done when you have depression and such from it. once you are "over the line" so to speak, its kinda hard to suck you back over until you KNOW everything is "ok". how long did the people you know deal with it for? ive only been dealing with it for 9 days now and its driving me bat shit crazy.

Again, very easy to say relax from the sidelines.....it can't be easy. I would probably be just as bat shit crazy. Both people got to a "tolerable" situation within about 2-3 weeks, and fully recovered within about six months. I think before long you will be out on the trails with no real limitations.....and a built in excuse when you fall on your ass or flip over a log 😛

Yes, I had a bunch. Avoid it if you can. It wasn't so fun the first time around (I think because I was so weak and was dealing with a lot of other meds and things). I felt pretty miserable everyday for over 2 yrs. Hot body flashes, appetite changes, sleeping issues, the moon face (water rentention), I felt like there was some kind of hormonal imbalance. When you get off it, you have to go slowly because you get dependent on it. I was a pretty high dose though. At the worst of it, I was getting 10x the regular amount via IV and it made me go crazy (literally - I thought I was twilight zone). That was just 1 bad night though. They gave me something to counter-act it.

Had a relapse about 3 yrs later, and went back on it for a year or so, but that time, I was able to tolerate it better (my body was physically stronger this time) and didn't affect everyday life for the most part.

Some doctor told me that if you inject a higher dose, every month or so, you can minimize the side-effects. Also realize I was taking as much as one can possibly take for a long-term period. Short-term use at low levels should not be so bad .. You may not even feel it. I would still avoid it though unless absolutely necessary.

There are other immuno-suppresents that helped like immunoglobulin & immuran. Immuran works like a very mild chemo-therapy (prevents cells from dividing). It has no noticeable side-effects (except for long term ones like liver damage & getting a tumour - yikes). Another problem with it is it takes like 2-3 months for it to take effect in your system, so what you do is start to take it with the corticosteroid & ween off the steroid while staying on the immuran. My memory is fuzzy on the immunoglobulin, but I think it's an injection you take for 1 week and that's it.

Soundz, you obviously had some severe issues for such long term use and high doses... glad you're better.

MIG, if yours is a short term you'll probably get a 6-10 day course which is manageable. Last I had them for a mild exacerbation of MS, I got freaky and paranoid when I took my third dose very late. Then I kind of swayed between needing to sit on the floor and cry and wanting to rip someone's head off and stomp on them with metal spiked cleats, then back to crying because I had wanted to rip their heads off. Fortunately, my family was pre-warned and quick to forgive.

My advice, if you get them, take them on time. You'll have less of a roller coaster ride and you'll be better quick.

yeah i dunno. i think i might opt AGAINST taking them for the time being. i dont want to deal with side effects if i can deal without them. fuck my life seriously.

I didn't mean to make the experience sound so scary. The 1st month of taking it, even at high dose, I didn't really feel much different than normal .. just a bit more energized and talkative. Everyone reacts differently to different drugs. If you feel really weird after a couple of days, you can just stop it or lower the dosage. I just offer my experience for informational purpose. You should really listen to you doctor (and maybe get a 2nd expert opinion). Personally, I wouldn't take it if I didn't have to, but if I thought it's gonna help me greatly or heal me faster, I would have to consider.

yeah i hear ypu man. and im greatful for the advice and whatnot. as of today my vision hasnt had any change. again still battling my depression and anxiety. i have family and friends and god on my side to help me fight this.

You will pervail man! Believe me it will happen the wife went through eye surgeries all through last year to repair retinal tears in one of her eyes. It was rough on her and she experienced the depression as well. I can't begin to understand how you feel, but seeing what she dealt with makes my heart ache for you man! Really praying hard for you a swift recovery!
