This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

If auto repair shops are essential, then bike repair shops are too, maybe even more so. I understand politicos by definition have no common sense, but WTF?

Is it too early to think that any injury due to a sporting activity (running, cycling etc.) may take valuable time from the ER crews, radiologist etc. while they could instead take a well deserved rest after working long hours due to the Corona crisis?

Just putting this out there as I saw a post on a FB from an Italian relative complaining about the now in place ban on all sporting activities, and somebody pointing out in response that with hospital crews working impossible hours 7 days a week and the shortage of doctors in the most critical zones of the country, showing up at the ER with an injury due to an activity that is banned may not be that great of an outlook.

Just putting it out there.

Makes perfect sense. Maybe not the best time to attempt that jump you always wanted to try.

Are you premeditating an excuse not to ride tomorrow? JK!
But seriously.... I was going to ask if we are at that pt.... but I guess we kinda are. Pretty fucked up place to be.

I've got a book full of excuses for not riding, I really didn't need this one. I was actually looking forward to the weekend for some solo riding and then I bumped into that post.

I guess the point is to lessen the work load of hospital workers as much as possible in anticipation for them to be hit by a large number of cases of corona virus. Hopefully it never gets to that point here in the US, but with the number of tested positive in NY the trend seems going there.

Definitely makes sense and do you want be in an ER around all this.
I’ve been trying to keep my son tamed for this same reason

If I’m not allowed to exercise I’ll be in the ER for heart disease side effects.

I’m guessing because alcohol withdrawl for a true alcoholic is dangerous and requires medical care.
That is exactly right. I was questioning this (while being thankful they are still open due to my own bad habits during this stressful time) and my wife informed me that nearly 50% of ED visits involved illicit drugs/alcoholism. They do not want these people in the ER with DVTs if possible.

I’ll add here that in times like these a locked and closed liquor store is a store askin* to be looted.

I was glad to see that they’ve given a fair nod to the dispensaries as well. The only bummer there comes when you’re eaten a month’s worth of rations before midnight.

I much rather liked their method of only 20 people in the store at a time, alternating registers. Kings was packed, no social distancing.

Bridgewater Costco has been doing this for a week+, I also like it, aside from standing in line outside. I went to Whole Foods a few days back, there was no "control" and the store filled up quickly, and you couldn't stay 6+ feet from another person no matter how hard you tried.

My co-worker said they should put out deli counter numbers, I agree. Grab a ticket then wait in your car!

Zwfit or whatever. I'm on my stationary every other day now.

You can take this same argument to a logical extreme in any number of ways. Walking on the roads & twisting an ankle. Driving to the store and getting into an accident. You can keep layering what-if scenarios to paralyze society with fear of doing anything. I think that’s a step too far.

People just need to use some common sense.
