I had this talk with my son a few days ago. A while ago I built him a couple wooden features to practice on with is bike. He's also become recently infatuated with popping the front wheel off the ground. I explained to him that the features were off limits and he needs to keep his wheels on the ground for next few weeks as the last place we can go right now is the ER.
Same here. That and the mental stress that starts to build with a lack of exercise. I'll be nuts(er), fat(ter), and sick if I stop riding.
You are exactly right. We can't all live in a bubble. We all just need to be smart. Maybe take the B line around that double for the next couple weeks.

I hope it doesn’t get to that point but if the US follows Italy’s trajectory that is where we’re headed. I agree, you can break something just walking in your living room, it’s a question of probability and mountain biking is more dangerous than zwifting. I’ve seen a much much better biker than me on his side like a weird turtle because he couldn’t unclip fast enough in a passage that I cleared easily, what are the chances of that? You’ve seen my suckiness at work! How many chances do you realistically have to meet somebody that has the virus in NJ, where out of 9M people ‘only’ a few thousand have it? As human we like to convince ourselves that the path we like the most is the correct one, sometimes it is, others we make it so and others we fall hard. I’m not fear mongering, I believe that if we can keep to ourself safely this thing will be a thing of the past pretty soon, just trying to stay ahead of the curve and using the events in other country as view into the future. And not liking it much at the moment.
Dont worry about hurting yourself and going to the ER.....if the ER is busy with other patients who are in more need of care than you...they are just going to make you wait. The ER is not first come first serve.
I have had to go to the ER 1 time in 13 years of riding ~5days a week.....im still riding

Residents are allowed leave their home under some circumstances as "the order provides for certain exceptions, such as obtaining essential goods or services, seeking medical attention, visiting family or close friends, reporting to work, or engaging in outdoor activities," according to the New Jersey COVID-19 Information Hub website.

I'll put it to rest, I expressed my thought and I'm hoping I'm being excessively cautious, but I don't think you grasp what is the situation in ER and hospitals in general in the corona virus hot spots in Italy right now

Within 2 weeks our society starts degenerating into hording, selfishness, paranoia, and stupidity from what is basically a more virulent strain of a flu-like illness. When something worse happens, whether it’s disease or some other disaster, we are all so fucked. I hope it never does, but look at history.

That's the problem people hear you can get tested and just go with no known exposure or symptoms so in reality they're putting them selves at risk. I'd also assume they're the same people who went out at St Patty's day...

My wife thought she got exposed last Monday she had symptoms, my son was checking all the boxes and we did 6 days of breathing treatments which is much longer than a typical episode. He also tested negative for everything else but we couldn't get tested.
I forget what the place is called in the hospital but my wife self reported and they did a questionnaire and let her return to work without an in person interview, testing wasn't an option after request.
My hope is we're already positive and are through the worst of it but we won't ever know unless they start testing hospital staff as preventative maintenance.
