the surf SUCKS

Yeah man, these are acceptable for surfing here, but not at all good for a beginner. You should look into a "fun shape" or longboard that's 7' 6 or bigger. You will learn much more quickly.

I have a few surfboards for sale:

WRV 6' 4 Tommy Moore squashtail $100
WRV 6' 0 fish with blue rails $150
Merrick K-board 6' 2 brand new $150

All boards in great shape, no dings, and hardly used.

The 6' board is not a fish, it is a swallowtail thruster, FWIW.

if you're looking to get into it - go with a used longboard.

dude - listen to jdog. you could defintely get more buckage for your boardage. try craigslist too.

i picked up my funboard off there. a kid left for college, and left his action funboard behind, and his parents wanted it out of the house... it was a steal. i couldn't resist. i'm sure after he heard what his parents sold it for he wept a little. 😀

that's a nice board for $400.

I also have the M13 and The performer 2.

The CI site is cool because Al does a little Clip on every board where he talks about who should be on it. There are also some really good surfing clips. Watching Rob Machado surf is insane.

considering a ronjon (my first and current longboard) is essentially the same price, that's a nice way to go. used longboards are hard to come by, so i ended up going new. the ronjon gets the job done for me, it was cheap, and was available.

rob is my one of favorites to watch in videos. especially when that he got out of the hardcore competition thing and started riding different kinds boards. i recently saw a film (totally don't remember the name, but it was relatively new) and rob was just killing it without 'tearing it up'.

Random post in here;

last week picked up a new used board (Surfboards Australia 8ft) as well as a 5/4/3 wetsuit (Hotline) and booties/gloves.

Meant to get all that a few months earlier but duty called and I was busy, haha.

Gave away my old shortboard to a kid in Bay Head who needed one. 🙂 In my defense it was too small for me to do well on anyway (6 ft).

Been fun the last few days, haven't caught anything significant yet though. Trying to teach myself because I cant find anywhere/anyone to give me a lesson or help out in general.

The best thing you can do if you are trying to learn is to study what the best guys in the water are doing right. Your best bet is to go to a spot that has a long jetty and stand there for a long time and watch from dry ground.

Look for the shoulder of the wave and what it takes to get in front of it.

You have to pay your dues, but it is worth it.

dude - i suck, but have had a ton of lessons because of that and would be glad to pass some beta along to a fellow noob. i'll start doing some dawn patrols before work in may through the summer and into the fall (once the sun gets up a touch earlier than now). i'll post up when i'm going. feel free to join.

Yeah I figured 6 feet was on the shorter end. I'll keep my eyes peeled for now, I have a summer place on the shore that's literally across the street from the ocean so I figure it'd be fun to learn to surf in the AM.

WHAT?!?!!?

That must be so nice. I have to drive 1 hr each way every day I go.

If you ever want to rent out a room lemme know. 😀

Early morning Low tide blows. Not much hope for me. Guess it's time for some low tide closeouts. Should be fun, good way to get in the mood to sell some bikes.
