The Garbage Heap

After 24 hours in the Penalty Box not a thing will change, you'll see.

I suspect this is the case. It's ok, we can stare at nothing for the next 24 hours in silence. I imagine it will take him 2-4 hours to hit the box for 48 hours. The fines will be progressive, and before long he'll have to sit out 7 days.

He's oblivious.

Yeah, I thought as much as well but the "arrow bars" really made me wonder. Arrow bars? That's too friggin funny.

is there a three strikes and your out policy?

I let the 3rd strike slide today, so this was really the 4th. It's all situational Fred. Just like when to go for the 2 point conversion.

In the last 48 hours, once he replied in a thread, I discontinued reading it. Once he got involved, all threads turned to complete sh!t. I was becoming disappointed because I saw his user-name as the last post in many different threads. I was running out of stuff to read.

I figured the Heap was my last safe haven. Thanks Norm for doing what is best for the board.

At this point I'm not sure if he's oblivious or a troll.

Oblivious.

I was about to push the button on a new thread, "Educating Macman", but hesitated. Now I'm not sure if it would continue the fun while doing some good here.

The penalty box or time out only works only if the offender learns an alternate behavior. To illustrate, I have a new puppy, cute as hell. He can be a lot of fun and does some silly things that can send you into hysterics.(Sounds like Mackman, right? But wait, there's more...) Since he doesn't know better, he pisses on the floor. If I just yell at him he learns nothing. If I praise him for going outside or show him the right thing to do, he learns. He really loves to play and wants to be with people and one day, when he's properly socialized, he'll be a great dog.

And so will Mackman. JK just pisses on himself and on his potential cause he knows no better. So which is more humane to him and to us? Shall we teach him or euthanize?

What Ben says is critical.

That's what happened to another site. Multiple posts in every area regardless of his knowledge or lack thereof. And it wasn't just one or two who stopped reading and posting, it was nearly all. Three months later the boards are still mostly dead and I doubt if they'll recover anytime soon.

I hate to say someone is hopeless, cause I don't ever believe that, but there is a point where the costs are way too high.

tangent - Brian Sipler can't help what he does, so please don't bash him. Thanks.

The screening process for mtbNJ board membership is getting more restrictive, too. My patience is even shorter than Norm's these days.

who is that guy in your avatar, he's damn handsome and sooo in style.

Can we please get this thread back on track with regular nonsense please???

The Heap is safe again, as is the board. The Arrow Bars was his shark jumping moment for me. He didn't just clear the shark he landed a good several hundred yards beyond. It signified that he was 1 of 2 things:

1. A troll
2. Lost beyond help

Neither option is good. The entertainment value is almost zero at this point.

And so will Mackman. JK just pisses on himself and on his potential cause he knows no better. So which is more humane to him and to us? Shall we teach him or euthanize?

The chance is his, but the onus is all on his shoulders. If you try and give him the heads up on how not to be a mess, more power to you but his virtual grave is at least 2 feet deep at this point.

Yeah, we can all see that happening here. So it's really time to shut it down. Single sentence paragraphs and lack of any uppercase letters is usually a red flag.

Steve usually has a zero tolerance for this stuff. I'm much more lenient but in this specific case our outlook is growing more and more in-line with each other. With the spam yesterday it just means people are going to have to give more information than a username and a location of "earth" when they sign on.

Last night, I had some jackass register with "in a house", for his location. After his registration was rejected, he sent me a condescending E-Mail telling me to give him "better reasoning" for my doing so. This time of year is tough on the board, and this nonsense makes it less fun all around.

i won't take the 'all lowercase usage' personally norm.

i've got nothing else to add on this other than that i am thankful that his plug has been pulled. and that if i hadn't been at the doctor's office for the past two hours i would have pulled it myself.

we're all tolerant here, provided your opinion is the same as ours. 😀

that's funny b/c for a long time my location was "in a house". then the frayed ends of sanity. now i'm keeping real. you know, for the good of the board.

Can we show the people who are registering a standard message telling them not to bother with comments like that? I can do a writeup that we can slap on the registration page.

Hmmm, not directed at you but you'd be surprised at how many people will write you off when they see that.

Yeah really, from the guy who has "Big Sky Country" as his location. I wonder if Steve would let himself in now 😉

I'm getting ready to throw myself in the Penalty Box". I used to have something similar to "Skylands Country", until I realized that Mergs had the same thing. I liked Jake's "Frayed Ends of Insanity".

yeah, me too. oh, look, there it is!

Even if someone puts something goofy in the registration fileds, I'm OK with that. But at least give us some indication that you are using the site for it's intended purpose, and don't be an asshat if we ask for more information.

Seeing Norm in his Warden outfit reformed me.

Not many know this but due to budget cuts there is no 'mtbnj' specific penalty box, it is just one big shared box. I met others in there from scrapbooking boards, road biking boards, recumbent restoration boards...all those boards store their unwanteds in there now. Pretty grim in there.
