The 7th annual darkhorse 40!!

They could run it pursuit-style, as they do on the track: Two starting lines, one at "zero" miles and another at the five mile mark. At "go", everyone starts chasing the other group.

Co-ed team for me. I just hope my partner doesn't beat the piss out of her face like at KSVP:getsome:. Anyone have a SS to lend her..?..JK but seriously. This will be fun. Pre-reg later this week.

Was there ever a picture taken of this one? I am not quite sure I understand how this happened. But then again, I fell in a mud puddle the first 10 feet of getting on my bike before the race at 909 yesterday (and messed up my knee - who knew there were rocks in a mud puddle?), so these silly things DO happen.

question for the masses

so, seeing that monsoon season is in full swing and it doesn't look like it will be ending anytime soon i bring forth an idea to the ever wise mtbnj crowd...

what would your opinion of a darkhorse 40 consisting of 4 10mile laps?
would you dig it?
would you hate it?
would you not come?

let us know. as we are up to our necks in preperation and course reconstruction we might be able to really highlight the goods in 10miles versus having to run thru some of the bogs on a 20 mile loop.

your opinions are appreciated!!

We are considering this race, as are some of my fellow team memebers. Having done it in the past, I know how much fun it is. But we are honestly waiting out the weather. We all raced at the Gallop this year and I can only speak for myself, but I do not want to do that again. It trashed, and I mean trashed our bikes. It was a very expensive race for us. Not to mention the trail damage.

So, if you are willing to change the course, to avoid riding through sections of the trails that you feel might be:
a. further damaged
b. really muddy

I say go for it, and it would probably swing us in the direction of signing up for sure.

I recently raced at the 50 miler ss race in Fair hill MD.

This was a two lap race. I thought that it was a perfect setup.

One lap to get to know the loop and a second to take the better lines.

4 laps doesn't sound as fun to me, but I will be there either way.

Can you swing 3, 13.3 mile loops??

How about 40 1 mile laps?? That might be really interesting.

I went from a "can't wait to go" to being on the fence as I don't mind some mud but the thought of doing the Gallup 2.5 times in that kind of mud is not that inspiring. If 10 mile laps would avoid the swamps I would probably look forward to it more.
