Strictly METAL

Anyone into Voivod? They put out some great stuff back in the late 80's. Nothingface is still one of my favorite albums. Very much ahead of their time. The stuff they put out since then has been so-so, not to mention a ton of line-up changes (their guitar player dying didn't help).

Also, the first Nuclear Assualt album is great.

im a big overkill fan. grew up on them actually. my sister would hand me tapes of them when i was a LITTLE kid. hahah like 7 years old young. i grew up on all the awesome old thrash. sod, anthrax, suicidal, flotsam and jetsam, etc etc. anybody going to see suicidal at starland in december?

I remember you once saying you were the only kid in 3rd grade that listened to Slayer.

You're Welcome.

Nice!

Also, the first Nuclear Assualt album is great.

I actually have this on VINYL!

Also used to have everything from King Diamond and Mercyful Fate on vinyl.

:hmmm:Wonder what ever happened to them? Any idea MIG??

IRISH😉

Nuclear Assault was my first show ever. That rat box Club Bene back in like 88. It was right when they got "big" with Survive and their smash hit single Brainwashed.🙄

Agreed, "Nothingface" is great, as is "Dimension Hatross". Both of these are really innovative records that demand lots of listening to really show their stuff. I even liked the one that followed "Nothingface", "Angel Rat", quite a bit. No thrash left by then, but they were playing their own brand of proggy stuff that also worked for me.

Piggy was a tremendously interesting guitar player, for sure.

My first show ever was Overkill. Anacrusis and Galactic Coyboys opening, some small club in Rockland County.

Anybody remember M.O.D or S.O.D.

This is completely from memory:

Harry got in his car, he turned the key
he started it up and headed up the LIE.
Too cheap to own a real car, had a volkswagon rabbit
and that put an end to harry's cheap habit.
the trucker couldn't swerve, so he just too aim,
and when he hit harry, harry burst into flames.
you're dead now harry, and you can't come back.
You'd still be alive if you drove a Cadillac

Think this was MOD, might have been SOD... The Ballad of Ronnie James Dio:

In the darkest depths of the blackest sun,
He's coming for you.
Look out!

Or A.I.D.S. for that matter! Sick song but friggin hillarious!!! 😛

Remember how they had the S.O.D. music in the old headbanger's ball intro on MTV.

I always seem to think of "Ode to Harry" whenever I drive on the LIE

Black Flag, and Overkill, opened up for Venom at city gardens in '85
My first small club show! Rollins, the front man of Black Flag at the time.

wow, that's a combo for ya. though black flag toured so much they probably played with genesis at some point.

anyone remember....

L'amour in Brooklyn?

Went to about a bazillion shows there.
I saw Anthrax, Overkill, White Lion, King Diamond, Stryper, Metal Church and Megadeth there. (separate shows, not all at the same time) I also used to hang out with the guys from Biohazard there, before they were big.

Those were the days....😀

The days are NOW.........Starland has some decent shows now and again......Seen Slayer....Motorhead...C.O.C.....Mastadon....Killswitch......Social D........WSOU keeps the Metal goin.....................Fists in the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For some reason this reminded me of how Life of Agony went from River Runs Red to the Jonas Brothers in 3 albums.

And fuck starland, that place sucks balls.
Pretty much I only go to shows at the Knitting Factory, Asbury Lanes and The Stone Pony.
And whatever shitholes my brother gets shows at.
Like the Clash Bar 🙂

nj lost a lot of its good venues of the years. bene(which became krome), birchhill, the pipleline, manville elks, and also some of the smaller venue like hamilton street and bloomfield ave cafe. played a lot of awesome shows at a lot of those venues. those were the days.
