Strictly METAL

bloomfield ave cafe was awesome. my brother played there a LOT. i loved it because they were no smoking when that wasn't the law.
there is a place up the block and underground now that has some shows, really shitty shows actually. my brother played there once. its called the meat locker. i used to hang out there when i was like 15 and it was called la-di-da's and was nothing more than practice space and an open mic.

ah, bloomfield ave

Birch Hill was one of the most unique venues ever. I remember going to a Testament show there that was some kind of pool party bbq sponsored by WSOU. Swimming, beer, hamburgers and metal.
The best night I remember from there was Slayer, on the Diabolus in Musica tour. Wandering around outside on one of the outdoor decks before they came on and there was some teen dance happening in the other ballroom or whatever it was...all these teens slow dancing and steaming up the sliding glass doors, oblivious to what was going on next door.
That place was a NJ treasure.

Anytime Slayer played a small venue it was mayhem. Convention Hall, Starland, Lamour way back in the day. Weren't the State Police at the Birch Hill show? That was a fun time.

haha i seen testament there once. it was by far the LOUDEST show i have ever been to. and ive been to hundreds of shows over the years. with earplugs in i just couldnt handle it. the sound guy had sooo much high end coming through the monitors it was like piercing.

I saw Slayer at the Felt Forum in '88 and things got really out of control at that one. Seat cushions thrown everywhere, part of the stage was collapsing and the pit was enormous. The band actually cut the set list short and basically told the crowd to go f*ck themselves. I actually found bootleg video of it on YouTube recently and brought back some memories.

This was one of those shows where the sound man should have been shot. Way too loud.

I actually have this show on a bootleg cassette. This was the show were people from the upper levels were throwing M80's at the stage. I read several interviews that said that Kerry and Jeff felt really uncomfortable onstage.

Slayer cut the set short, Tom Araya's last words, "Good night Assholes"

I clearly remember this one as well, though I wasn't there.

What was it with explosives back then? I was at a Maiden show around the same time when people were doing the same shit.😕

Who knows what people decide to do when they are all F'd up at a show like that. I actually think this was the last concert at the Felt Forum(at least a metal show) due to all the damage. Weren't they throwing seat cushions too?

Anyway, I will say that anytime you see Slayer is a good time, especially if you leave un-injured.

loudest........

Motorhead is the loudest band I've ever seen................I' ve heard Manowar is actually the loudest, though I haven't experienced it!

Motorhead needs to be seen, up close and personal like to appreciate the LOUDNESS.........like the Pony or Starland..........:getsome:

Oh man is Manowar Loud..... Saw them close at Metal Fest in Asbury Park years ago. Amazingly loud would be the best way to describe it.

Mars Volta was loud in a bad way when I saw them, almost a white noise distorted kind of loud. Manowar was clean as a whistle, lose your hearing loud.

How's about least loud show......?

I went to see Judas Priest at Continental (think it was still Brendan Byrne back then) Arena on the Painkiller tour. Megadeth and Testament opened and on both of their sets it seemed as though only half of the speakers were on. Most of the house lights were left on to boot. Not very enjoyable.

It all made sense when Priest came on though - loud, lights, the whole deal. Guess they were going for dramatic effect and wanted to keep the opening acts in their place. That was one of the best concerts sound-wise that I had been to.

I saw Manowar about 9 years ago at Club Bene. Defenitely blow your speakers loud. They had a whole wall of amps behind them.

Death To False Metal!!!

Their lyrics could be a bit corny at times but they still kick ass

Sunday night (NOV 2) I will be wearing my DJ costume and playing records on my computer for the first night of SHOW NO MERCY, a monthly metal night in Brooklyn at Assembly Hall, the former Galapagos space.
I will be playing a bunch of metal guitar wank/drum wank and a variety of overly self indulgent musical excercises.
Imagine this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fV2aGO83l4
with this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3jAK3r9vLc&feature=related
with a little more salt of the basement/shed feel...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl9zP1kj5Dw&feature=related

You get the picture. I can promise nothing good, but if you show up I will buy you a beer. sixseven as DJ Safe Word.
