Strictly METAL

A friend of mine is going to be hosting a metal night in Brooklyn starting on November 2nd...he asked me to spin some records that night and if I knew any bands that would want to play the first night.
Any reccs for some good local acts that might want to do it?

did any of you freaks go see Overkill last night?
My brother (age 37) mentioned this show to me a while ago, but the motivation wasn't too high. These days, I'm more likely to drive 115 miles for a 40 minute cyclocross race.🙄

We were supposed to see them at Mingles or Club 35 a million years ago, but they cancelled at the last minute.

My good friend is a huge Overkill fan and every year around this time they play Starland Ballroom, its like our big night out. I can say that I see Overkill about twice a year for the last 8-10 years or so. If they are local, we go.

We even went to Convention Hall in AP a few years ago where they filmed some anniversary DVD. They played for about 3.5 hours. I think they played every damn song in their collection.

Bobby Blitz may have less body fat than you, he's like 115 years old but has the body of a high school track star. Unfortunately he's got the big Jimmy Durante booze nose.

Still, after 20 plus years, they still put on a good show.

Overkill is one of my favorite metal bands. I have seen them at the Cricket Club at a WSOU event a number of years ago, and they were awsome.

I called into WSOU to make a request for a Overkill tune. and they denied me saying some kind of gibberish about them being to 80's 🙄 I was kind of dissapointed with that. I remember Blitz dropping by their studio a number of times to BS with them.

In any case these guys have been around for a long time, and have really stuck to their roots.

I was never a big fan beyond the first two lps, but the thing that I dug was their aggression level. That's always a big thing for me with any band- how hard are they throwing down? Overkill seemed to be living up to their name, and it sounds like they still do, which is cool.

I'm digging that there seems to be somewhat of a revival of interest in 80's thrash these days.

I remember seeing Overkill in about late '89, early '90 at the Ritz in NYC (i'm pretty sure it was the old studio 54 bldg) on the years of decay tour. It was a pretty sick show and the mosh pit was insane. I had bruises on my arms for a week and a half.
I was also a huge Anthrax fan back then. Anybody remember M.O.D or S.O.D.

I caught Overkill once in Tokyo about 4 years ago. Great scene, packed club, about 20 kids sitting on this railing in the back doing perfect air drumming.
The band would rip thru a song and there would be a moment of silence and then very polite clapping like you hear at a golf match.
Bobbie tried to explain that some song was dedicated to Jimmy Breslin but I don't think anyone understood what he was saying or who Jimmy Breslin was.
2 hour train ride back to the hotel, train packed in the middle of the night with sleeping businessmen.

Didn't he have nose cancer or something Bobbie Blitz?

MOD, SOD...awesome stuff...what happened to that guy? He used to have a studio in Jersey City...Big Blue Meanie or something like that.

im a big overkill fan. grew up on them actually. my sister would hand me tapes of them when i was a LITTLE kid. hahah like 7 years old young. i grew up on all the awesome old thrash. sod, anthrax, suicidal, flotsam and jetsam, etc etc. anybody going to see suicidal at starland in december?

I was into Overkill for their first three albums, but basically lost interest after that. Not saying they suck or anything, just didn't do it for me. Saw them open for Slayer on the South of Heaven tour in Bethlehem, PA at Lehigh's arena. I think Motorhead was on that one as well. Anyway, they were first on the stage and played maybe six songs and that was it.

The new wave of old school thrash out there these days is good to see, but I don't imagine it has much in the way of staying power beyond the nostalgia/novelty aspect.

Now you're talking! Metal Church, King Diamond, OverKill, Sanctuary, Flotsam&Jetsam, ManOWar, Suicidal Tendencies, Queensryche, Slayer & there's more that you heard of and more that you haven't. I have to put Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rush, Megadeth etc because they still F-In are putting out METAL! Anyone whos seen Maiden or Priest this summer knows what I'm talking about. I'm so stuck in the '80's- 90's metal. I listen to everything and give everything a try. But I'm kinda stuck......And I don't care! Rock, Mosh and Thrash On!!! Kudo's to whatever everynes listening to and I'm going to 'research some of the bands mentioned. Thanks!
