Six Mile TM - Sunday September 14th - Roll Call

Awesome Stuff !!! (Except the poison ivy...)

Jason, you are the "Czar of Trailbuilding", and your crew... like a band of machete-wielding Cossacks!!! "Stand aside, or ye shall be plundered"!!!

I continue to be in awe of the speed and skill at which you all build such fine trails... BRAVO!

A funny observation... We discovered a geo-cache just off the trail... no doubt once buried deep in the dense forest, it now it sits in plain view at the edge of the trail for all to see, to rifle through its contents (and to write silly notes in the logbook....tee hee hee)

... and regarding the poison ivy, I did my best to avoid it, I immediately applied Technu (several times) when I got home, showered thoroughly, and STILL I'm feeling itchy today... DEEYUM!! It affects everyone differently... me... it permeates through to my soul...

Let us know when the next TM dates are (except this weekend... we'll be in Moab... tee hee hee... don't tell our wives)...

Peace,
BB

after reading all these posts, i'm pretty happy i'm immune to poison ivy. it does not sound like a good time

I washed up with tecnu extreme as soon as I stopped sweating, ( I think that was around 11pm,... just kidding) I am not overly sensitive as I have been exposed so many times, but I still have some on each of my inner forearms. It could have been worse as I almost walked straight into a huge vine hanging off that old shed at the start of the red trail. I was just a wee bit knackered and was not paying attention until I was nearly eating a mouthfull of that horrid weed. All in all a very satisfying session, and I can't wait to ride it in.

Ian and I rode it this afternoon.
the double is doable (could be a tad closer, but okay)
i wouldn't say there's alot of climbing at all
some corners aren't too nice
otherwise it's nice

Good. Fix em!

Hopefully I can find some time to adjust it over the next couple of weeks. Basically, the lead jump needs to move forward a couple of feet. It would be fine where it is if there was a lip to pitch you into an arc, but there would be a few downsides to that: 1 - to the inexperienced (especially on XC bikes), a lipped jump can be dangerous, 2 - it needs to be rollable in both directions and a lip would make that difficult, and 3 - the lip would need constant maintence; fine if you're keeping a whole set of jumps maintained, but I see this jump just being a fun little hit in the trail that can be gapped if desired and easily pumped or rolled if not.

True... I had commented when we got to that spot, "a take-off jump about here would be cool..." and moved on... and then upon returning, found something had been built. I agree, it's not a priority... and part of me wonders if a jump there is even safe... since upon landing you can really be cooking into the next section... and if you land wrong, there are a few things to hit that would hurt... I don't know... so I'll leave that for others to decide... you guys know this dirt better than I.

Warcricket and I rode it three times each before moving on... He almost cleared it on the last attempt. I kept trying to pop it as if there was a lip and didn't do so well. ...and as hinted previously, I'm horribly out of practice...

Although there are some places you can clear at 6mile (graves & the tops at twisties)... a series of jumps in a straight section at 6mile would be killer! I really think the reroute to the new trail should include a straight jump section. Like the three at the end of stephen's. Those were SWEET! 😀

I will fix it Tomorrow.

I did some digging today on the Red trail just before the New section.

that "jump" was worked for about 15 min and IMO they were butchering it. As this was not the focus of the TM on sunday, we left it go. I rounded out the top a tad after the intial builders moved on because they were trying to build a lip when obviously it needs to be rollable.

i wouldn't say we butchered it because all we did was make a pile of dirt and move on. a jump takes work and grooming, not 10min of dirt piling.
