Music

So I had this discussion at the bar the other night when asked why I don't care much for classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Floyd etc. My response was when I got old enough to get into music most of those 70's bands were either dead, broken up or more to the point just old to my teenage ears. It just seemed to make more sense to get into local bands I could see for $2 and a can of food vs paying hundreds of dollars to sit in an arena. I thought this was a valid argument, I was told I don't know what I'm talking about.

So, am I a clueless uncultured heel because I don't think Robert Plant is the be all end all of music? I give those bands their due, I just don't ever want to hear them ever again.

I like Kashmir. Maybe the best song ever written, to me.

Every time I hear Stairway to Heaven I want to drown kittens.

It just seems to me that these guys were unwilling to entertain any other opinion other than theirs. I'll never say Led Zeppelin sucks, or they aren't good musicians. I just don't care for them and that seems to be the sticking point. I understand a lot of the bands I like have been influenced by those bands, but I think you have to continue to look forward, to find new music, not look back to a time that isn't going to come back.

I just read Fahrenheit 451 for the first time ever this week. It's really not that good but I respect the effort for the time.

There are several war fronts all over the world and yahoo does not alert my phone to the human/economic issues with any of them.

Yet last night my email went off the charts with yahoo news updates about the grammys.

1. Yahoo news is awful.
2. Kanye should be banned from any media environment

That said, I did not watch them.

But, since this is the music thread, my top five from the day:

1. Boards of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy
2. Strapping Young Lad - Love
3. Gowan - Strange Animal
4. Hed PE - IFO
5. Tool - Rosetta Stoned

Yeah but you can't beat classic PBNJ.
