Is strava going from suck to blow?

Honestly, to the people who are concerned, they would be private anyways. I am more amazed how many people don’t use the location privacy buffer.
Flyby is a strava labs product, and for a long time, there was no link in the ride overview.
I’m sure when using a real name, a privacy zone isn’t going to help.

I agree that its a very cool feature and I was bummed when they pulled it, but I understand the issues, like Patrick says all it takes is one creep out of how ever many of thousands to ruin it for us all.

Unfortunately, it seems the option to see the segments results for "Today" also seems to have been removed, ostensibly also for sake of privacy.

I just got Strava Premium for the first time (a gift) and I thought I was going to get to see those who also rode a segment "today." Nope.

I never paid for strava and used to use the “today” filter to identify people riding in bad conditions

damn, i used that to see who was riding in the mud!
or who was poaching some private property.

I can see where that could be an issue but it’s gotta be a tiny percentage of the user base. I always thought it was cool to look after a ride and see who you passed and what route they took. I’m not trying to ask them on a date. 😂
It was cool to see this for Hell of Hunterdon (HoH) or Gran Fondo NJ, so you could literally see hundreds or 2,000+ for GFNJ, and see where you were in relation to everyone or dial it in to specific people.

I was able to track down a guy doing bad Trail work using this. I made attempts to contact him off strava, which did work and eventually called him out on strava. It didn’t end pretty but he stopped.
I saw some of those jerk wads posted their mud rides or e-moto rides 6MR on Instagram and they are so blatant about it.

'Today' is still there -

go to the full leaderboard - then use the filter on the leaderboard, not the side panel.

The whole flyby thing was always an add on That was open bu default but I guess the privacy thing kicked in and they decided to shut it off by default for everyone a few months ago. The main problem was they didn’t communicate that part real well that you have to opt back in

It's still there, but on the app at least, you don't see the option for it if nobody rode it today.

If your Strava privacy is set to allow anyone to see your rides, they should have just opted you into flybys by default. You can still figure out who it was you flew past (or in my case, who flew past me), but it requires figuring out what segment they would have ridden, looking at the today list, and then guess and checking.

So Strava changed the layout of their mobile app overnight (the desktop version still looks the same last I checked.) I think the goal is to drive toward their new features, like the updated map feature. Not sure if I'll use much of those, but I actually like the changes they made - feels a bit more streamlined. Nothing huge - but the way they moved stuff around creates a more intuitive layout.

Mobile app doesn't look any different for me. I do notice on the FEED screen a new CLUBS option. Maybe just the paying members. I'm still using the free shit.

check the play store for an update to the app, it may not have pushed to your phone yet.

Some of the new(s)

It's not all that different

Strava question...if you're riding a "segment" that takes about an hour and is about 4.5 miles
and you stop for any reason, lets say 1 minute, does that take away from your overall time, or
does that get adjusted because only moving time counts, and you can still make a KOM?
