Race Promoters

Norm, you can add the 24 hr race promoters and such to the list top of tm folks. I know Bob will be making sure it gets done well.

Well not exactly the way I phrased it. But if that branch landed 5 feet to the left, my morning would have been even more rough than it was. Luckily the mountain didn't send an down an avalanche of rocks. Like I said, if you're into omens.

As for the event being cancelled, if it's the right thing to do then it is. But I'm curious as to what the reality on August 31 is that dictates a race in the first week of October be cancelled.

Norm, and everybody else, when should we've cancelled? 2 weeks from now ? the week before ? the day of ? How 15 minutes before the start. If you already registered, you'll get a complete refund all 16 of you.

It's not my call to make but I think now is good. But my question is perfectly valid and logical. It turns out the answer is that the promoters (you) don't have the time/energy to make it happen.

If it's that simple you should have said as much from the beginning. It would keep people from wondering what the reasons are.

norm, i wasn't sure what the reason for your post on the last page was, or why you even still had questions about it. especially considering it was explained twice briefly, and once in detail on the first page of the thread:

I'd would be easier to explain in person . The bottom line is we made the decision based on our own concerns for the Park, our future ability to promote races and in consideration of the amount of potential work before and after the event, especially with the intense scrutiny we'd be under. Trust me, as dorky or lame as it sounds the 3 of us who make up W2 sports were very upset and emotional about the decision. The 50K race has been something we've talked about for over 10 years, and to see how people embraced it, loved it, and made it somewhat of a local legend/epic event was pretty fucking cool.
We will be doing something as truly epic and unique in the future.
The bottom line is we made a decision based on our own concerns and not based on any outside influences.

Sean,

The explanation doesn't mention the 24 HoA maintenance that needs to be done and how that impacts the pre/post work needed for the 50k.

The first explanation reads, to me, "Yeah those trails are fucked up we need to lay off."

not trying to start anything, just saying that i thought it was more than sufficiently explained already.

and that's not enough reason??

It suggests that the trails will be fixed up in no time isn't exactly true. Yes certainly it's a good enough reason but then it brings into question if there should be a 24 hour race or not. But that race is run by a different organization than W2.

not trying to start anything, just saying that i thought it was more than sufficiently explained already.

The quote you put in bold only pertained to the 50k, at least from my perspective. If it was sufficient for you then cool. I don't really have an issue with you accepting it. I wanted to ask more questions. At this stage it seems fine, Brett's objections not withstanding. Clearly some people, Brett included, do not accept the answer.

Who the f!@# pulled my post??

I did. It offered nothing constructive and frankly irritated me. If you have a reasonable objection to anything someone has to say feel free to disagree - that's what this board is about. In fact, I want to hear it. But I see no reason to not keep it civil.

there's been alot of that lately, and frankly, i think it's bullshit.:getsome:

It may be a bit heavy handed at times, I agree. But people - more than 1 or 2 - are complaining about the fact that every thread gets derailed. Personally I try not to move/delete much of anything but if a conversation is still going and then you guys have a few drinks and add 3 pages of nonsense I agree that they should be tossed. There's plenty of space here to have serious and silliness.

After I deleted Brett's post I mentioned it to all the other moderators that it may have been heavy handed and that if they wanted to put it back, I wouldn't disagree. Nobody disagreed, at least not yet. But since you guys have an issue with it, I will put his 6 (or whatever) words of wisdom back after I submit this.

I'm sorry I'm in a position where i know stuff but absolutley cannot reveal sources. The latest 24hr debacle is only 1 facet of many mtb related issues in Sussex Co parks. While the more "relevant" people keep telling you alls ok I see a definate bicycle related policy change coming soon to our parks.I could care less.We always rode dirt bikes and mtb wherever, whenever cause we live here and know how to get in and out, but for yall who need the public lots and don't know every inch of trail(to avoid rangers if need be) you may be losing some choices in the future.Think about it ,or just keep drinking the koolaid. I still love you Normy..........................

Well, as long as there's still love at the end of the day I'm a happy guy.

Fuck it Dude, let's go bowling.

Okay Brett -- usually you are a "no bullshit" kind of guy -- why all the cloak & dagger BS about "I'm in a position where I know stuff but absolutley cannot reveal sources"? Specifically what do you know about "policy changes", or is it all just a game to get people riled up? 😕

That's the same crap I-man on the other board used to pull, only he said his buddy worked for the DEP. If you know something, spit it out man.

Wow.....

Honestly guys.... This is crazy and out of hand..... You want to know what a guy who raced MTB for 8 years and now only shows up once and in a blue moon thinks ??? (probably not but I'll say it anyway)

Sounds like the same ole' story from back in the day when Sarah was rallying the troops to get JORBA going.... We all got together (me included in the meeting room in Lewis Morris Park) and talked a great game. Yeah a bunch of chapters where created guys like Norm (at Allamuchy), Wally (down in Allaire), IceBiker (sorry don't remember your first name over at Lewis Morris), and Hartshorne used to be taken care of by a club down there but again my memory is pretty bad (too many endos in the day)... But from a guy (now take this with a grain of salt) who rides in the woods now probably a dozen times a year now every now and then sees changes in the trails from maintance and that comes from they guys who love the sport and see it threated but not the people who are profiting from the sport we all know and love (and I can say without hesitation this comment does not include the grass-roots guys from W2 who are hardcore MTBrs and give their soul for the sport)

Money and Cash are great for support but with where the 24HOA came from a bunch of guys camping in the woods handing Sarah Frost a baton to bar codes (remember those .... what happens when they get muddy ??? They don't work) to electronic scoring (for some reason is still hours behind) just seems to me entry fees have gone up signifcantly, more racers show up to race, and yes there are more support day of race (24 hours of food that you can buy ......) One day I may be back to race it but 1 man's opinion is BRING SARAH AND THE BATONS back!!! At least you'll see her up there helping to fix the trials !!!

I don't want to start a $h!t storm.... so please no one take offense but it's this has needed to be said out loud since this race switched hands !!!

One more thing .......

Important notice to all riders from this year's 24 Hours of Allamuchy:

The Saturday night rains of last weekend did more than just make riding difficult and dirty. This year those torrential rains, on top of the week of rain going into the race, resulted in some serious damage to some of the more susceptible Allamuchy trails. We are committed to remediating the damage done as a result of the event. In order to repair the damage as quickly as possible, we've set up a Trail Maintenance weekend for next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 & 9. But we will need lots of help, and we'd like to reach out to you for some assistance.

Please let us know if you can join us for the following Trail Maintenance (TM) project:

SAT. Sept. 8, 8:00AM to approx. 2:30PM
Meet at Mt. Allamuchy Boy Scout Camp, Camp Wheeler side. Coffee, bagels, and cold beverages will be provided at 8:00AM. At 8:30AM we will head out on foot to begin the TM project on the damaged trails. At the end of the day's project we will provide pizza and more cold beverages. All necessary tools will be provided.

SUN. Sept. 9, 8:00AM - approx. 2:30PM
Essentially the same schedule as Saturday, for as long as needed to complete the project.

We have been coordinating these preparations with the Superintendent of Allamuchy State Park, the management of the Boy Scout camp, and JORBA.

The first 20 people who commit to at least one full day of the project will receive a 50% single-rider discount on an entry fee to the 2008 24 HOURS OF ALLAMUCHY. Depending on how many additional people sign up, and for how long they work, we will keep records and provide additional smaller discounts for next year's event.

Please respond, via email only, to the following email address with your name, email address, day & evening phone numbers, which weekend day you can join us, for approximately what duration that day:

INFO@24HOURSOFALLAMUCHY.COM

We will contact everyone who responds to confirm final details.

We will return the Allamuchy trails to their condition prior to this year's race, and we'll be grateful to any of you who can join in to help us accomplish this.

- Dan & Paul, Race Directors,
24 Hours of Allamuchy

IF they really cared why wouldn't they give everyone who shows up 1/2 price admission next year ???

People say stuff to me and around me because they know i will never talk and i don't want that to change. I see BS on here about shops, riders etc that i could shut down and call people out on all the time but even though I can be a real prick and this is just a small segment on the internet I don't feel right about affecting peoples lives and livelyhoods on the web. I just know that the bike people are saying one thing and the "man" is saying almost the opposite around here and the disparity makes me wonder whats really happening. You hear alot about TM but most of it is really TB which is starting some others on illegal building i think and it's getting out of hand also. Let's see what the maint. turnout is for the 24hr repair and then see how the CX at HP state park go. I think they will be a important marker of where things stand..............PS I'm still waiting to cut some trees BobW

Bro, you fed me!! That's a lifelong bond in my book.....................

We'll always have the potato pancakes man.

Good post above, the key being one person says one thing, another person something else. Also, you're spot-on about the illegal trails. Seems like this is happening more and more. Not good.

I find it mind-boggling that even with all of the information out there regarding the potential implications of building illegal trails on park land, someone(s) are still doing so. Brett, I finally saw the trails at kvsp, and what gets me is that the person(s) who built was arrogant enough to hang tape from the trees, as well.

Don't forget the illegal trails at Deer Park as well.
