Ride #16 - the decision maker

I told myself if I could get on the bike today, I can complete the month.
I went out after the rain. Felt good despite a glass of rosé with lunch. Did a zone 4 pyramid workout just to keep my mind busy. Trying to embrace all this road riding. Looking at the forecast I'm thinking most of this week will be on the road.

Tough getting rides squeezed in today. My wife wasn't around most of the day so I took the kids to the little pump track in fasola park. After about 25 minutes it started raining and the kids weren't into the wet riding.

Then to finish up the hour I had to wait until visiting family had left and the kids were up in bed. Took the fattie out for a neighborhood ride. 15 minutes in my front tire started getting squishy, by the end of the 40 minute ride it might've had 1psi or so. It was really muggy. Chased a little frog off the road.

16. New wheelset day! Went full roadie. Specialized C38s for the Echo. Pretty easy to flip the chips from gravel to road mode on the Allied. Maybe 10 mins to do and that’s bc I probably bent a rotor in some gravel muck and had to fiddle with the angle of both brakes. Also, my mtb shoes smell like something completely rotten. Anyone know any tricks to get rid of the smell? I think I need another set so they can dry out between rides which isn’t happening with the damp weather.

Stuff them with newspaper and wrap the outside like a deli sandwich with more newspaper and tape it to secure it. Take the foot liners out before you stuff them.

Depending on wetness you may need to repeat this but It wicks out all the Moisture after a few hours but ideally overnight.

July 15

2hr, 18 min

I started on the Columbia Trail a bit, as I was on the wrong side of a bridge closed for construction. I rode the Columbia Trail down to the Middle Valley, heading South-West to Califon. I went up and over Cokesbury-Califon Road and down to Water street to Sawmill Rd. for the climb back up to 517 at Pottersville Rd.

Perhaps this water wheel is a remnant of a past sawmill for which Sawmill Rd was named.

Sage advice, @iman29!

Ride #17

Just spinning legs again. Creek road is a beautiful scenic road popular to tourist visiting Hunterdon county. My town decided a few weeks ago, with no support from the residents, that maintaining this road was no longer in the budget and it's upkeep is too expensive. A portion of it was permanently closed to vehicular traffic two weeks ago. Thankfully they are keeping it open to bikes and pedestrians for the time being via the small opening in the barricades.
