Day 3 - Snakes on the Trail

I thought this was a regular black snake and then the tail rattled, I almost fell over myself when that happened. Looking at the pictures now, its head and coloration seem wrong but the thing rattled and turned toward me so forgive me for not getting a better shot to confirm. Looks like it just ate a small gopher or squirrel. Anyway, F snakes

Overnighter through NY and PA. Garmin cut out 45-Miles from Promised Land State Park to White Haven, PA. Was probably 25 hours ride time for 355-Miles. Had an issue with my external battery pack holding a charge so I stopped randomly throughout the first day to charge my Garmin. Day 2 was almost 100% on the D&L so I had nowhere to recharge and my Garmin finally died at Washington's Crossing. Was close enough to home that my wife just came to get me.

24:13:13 for Saturday/Sunday, I don't know what each was individually.

Calling @capedoc, what the heck is it?

Black rat snake. They rattle their tail in the leaves when threatened. Sound similar to rattle snake.

Black rat snakes aren't very fast so they usually wont flee like Black Racers will. Therefor they stay put and pretend to be rattlesnakes 🙂

It fooled me, when I heard the rattle and it turned toward me I jumped out of my skin.

celebrated pretty hard yesterday so I woke up really late today not in great shape. I was going to call it quits today because it honestly felt like a job more then having fun today. My wife told me to just get out the house and see how I feel. I got on the bike and with in a minute I was happy I did. Just rode around local and for exactly a hour but it felt good to just be out there. Relaxed the rest of the day and going to take the kids to see some more fireworks if it doesn't start to rain.

Bravo. This is a shit ton of riding. You gotta have a taint of steel by now.

so i had the pleasure of having my ass handed to me by @sarcaro and @2Julianas at mahlon over the weekend (promptly followed by some yummy food to ease the pain)... and, since i felt like i needed an easier ride after that, i decided to ride patriot's path from speedwell to lewis morris... i guess i never realized it (or maybe i'm just a stronger rider now) but that's a nice warm up to riding a loop at lew mo... so stay tuned for PP + LM from me one of these days 🙂

and, again, all pics and strava links will be added to my FB folder: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/...072.1073741831.1387901121&type=1&l=fff5dee632

I could have ridden on Friday, but after a rough day at work, I spaced and completely forgot about this. I did ride all three days of the holiday weekend. Doh... next year.

Oddly enough, road riding here along coastal NH/ME is kinda boring so far compared to where I ride in PA & NJ - looks like I will need to go really far inland to find a decent hill. Then again, I have to remember the route I do at home has been put together and tweaked over 25 years, so it'll probably take some time to get a route together.
