2017 cannondale scalpel

Ya I mean why the hell not once you tear it down this far. I also wanted to put some wrap on the frame and its just easier with everything off of it.

I also like to see where I can save some weight, so weighing some parts along the way. I mean I do weigh my XC race bike...but not sure if id call myself a weight weenie per say only because I dont buy the big money lightweight parts. Valors arent cheap, but the ride of valors is SO SO much better than my china carbon wheelset, I would use them for that reason. But other than valors, I mainly save weight like this for example:
stock seat/carbon seat post

My 5 year old selle italia carbon road saddle and aluminum KCNC ti pro-lite post from my old scalpel....its so beat to shit after 5 years (yes 5 years and I didnt break it) and many thousands of miles, im probably just going to replace both...I paid about $100 used for the saddle on ebay, the seatpost is about $75...Really I could probably sell the stock parts for that.
but anyway

so thats 2/3rds of pound of without spending a ton of money...I mean there are lighter posts and saddles you can buy, but they get crazy expensive.

Weight savings while changing to your preferred touch point. WIN!

Yes, the first order of business when purchasing a fat bike is to spend money on getting your 6lb. wheels down to 5lbs.

I mean if I'm a weight weenie on a bike I race, up hills, 98% of the fat bike riders on this board are also 🙂

No doubt about that. Not that I'm complaining...it's nice that you do all my research for me 😉

Where's the bottle holders? 😉

Looks sick. If only you were a large.

It is a large...come on man!

Funny, didnt even think about the bottle holders as I almost never ride with a bottle on the mtb.

as it sits its 22.5lbs...have a few more things to change on it yet.

Few other things of note....I bought Jeffs magura mt-8s for it which he has on his hardtail. Both lines were too short so I made a new line for the rear and just put the old rear on the front and shortened it. But new scalpels come with 160 front rotors and the piston on mt-8s is huge and wont clear the mounting bracket, so I have to switch the front to a 180..no big deal.

I weighed a few parts as i was swapping them out...this is how I try to weight weenie things...save weight, but money too if possible
Slightly used mt8 brakes from Jeff...both lines too short, but paid less for what the Xts would cost that come with the bike....Combined with the ai2 rotors I use vs XT rotors
Xt's 772 grams
Mt-8s 498 with ai2 rotors
So thats like .7 lbs just in brakes

XX1 11 speed vs xx 10 speed
I got an xx cassette, rear DR and shifter off ebay, new for a total of $285...Which should be less that what I sell the xx1 stuff that came with the bike...XX combination was 208 grams lighter..so almost 1/2lbs. So if you can live without that giant 42T for a race bike, you can save some money and weight. And when I REALLY need some additional gear for a course with steep hills, I just put a 30T upfront for the day.

I weighed the stock czero carbon wheels as they came off the bike...didnt even remove the reflectors as im going to sell them as new....They we 1780grams...but probably 100grams worth of reflectors to be fair...My valors are 1330. Ok, this is not a money saving item, but valors are the single best upgrade I have ever put on a bike, so totally worth it IMO.

Little things...Like the stock grips are 90 grams, my foam kcnc's are 11...eventually ill probably put the opi stem on the bike as well.

I think Ill have everything wrapped up tonight and be after to take it for a ride tomorrow.

Thats how it comes...probably not going to stay that way, but ill at least try it out.

How many mm is the Stem? I think my scalpel had a 110. I switched to a 90 and I really don't like it. I feel like I can't get enough weight over the front of the bike when turning. It's amazing what 20 mm will do. I'm going to swap it back.

says he's not a weight weenie "per se"- then spends 2+ weeks posting about weights down to the gram and how much less his new ride will weigh.

Ummmm OK.

I have never weighed a bike or bike part. Ever. I am not a weight weenie. Per se.

BTW, GLWThenewride.

your just not familiar with a true weight weenie...Like when you sand all the paint off your bike, or spend $500 on a saddle thats 11 grams lighter...weight being placed over all other aspects of the bike part. Function, durability, cost.
This is a weight weenie...I dont have this kind of $$$...sadly

interesting, i went from the 110 to 90 and love it, maybe i just dont turn fast enough? i loved it when it got steeper. everywhere else it is still a little more upright for my tastes

@UtahJoe LOL, nice. A wise man explained to me when I was an extreme noob (1985-ish?) that sometimes a little weight is a good thing. He broke seats, seatposts, bars, you name it. Not pretty.

I have always chosen durability over all as I have never been "Mr. Smoothie," nor "Mr. Disposable Cash." Still riding DT Hugi FR (440s) laced to Atomlabs 36H Trailpimps using 14g straight spokes that I laced in the mid-90's. Lotta miles on doze hoops...
