Brazil vs Portugal today on paper looks like a great match, however since both are pretty much advanced to the 2nd round, wouldn't be surprised if they just go out there and play half ass and avoid injuries for the next rd.

Did you guys see the 3rd goal against Italy??? How can a top team allow a goal like that, to be started from a throw in!?!? no wonder they are O-U-T...

Ok....1st phase over....
Best team so far....:hmmm: tough, because I haven't seen a very consistent team, but if I had to pick one it has to be Argentina and of course Mexico has to play them next 😡
The other one Holland, (my pick to win it all 😉) However, I dont think they are playing to their potential and I dont like the way they are playing. They seem to be struggling to beat their opponents convincingly.

Holland and Argentina only 2 teams with 3 wins.
Uruguay and Portugal only 2 teams with 0 goals against.

8 out of the 16 teams advanced with only 1 win :hmmm:

Out of CONMEBOL, the South American Federation, ALL 5 teams advanced and they seemed stronger and playing better than the other teams. So again, I believe the cup will come to South America.
Out of CONCACAF, the North American Federation, USA & MEx advanced (as predicted 😉) Honduras out and showing what most people believe a very poor futbol.
Out of the African Confederation, only 1 (Ghana) out of 6 advanced. A shame since the WC is in AFRICA.

two out of 4 Asian federation teams advanced, Japan & Korea....seems like Aussies and NZ's should keep the focus in Rugby 🙄 As I said before, I am really surprised both Korea and Japan made it through as they were in groups where I thought Nigeria and Camerun would've advanced.

And the usually strong European teams, showed poor and inconsistent play, where the current champ and runner up (Italy & France) were sent home after the 1st round.

Now for today's match-ups.....USA has it tough against Ghana and Uruguay should advance easily over S. Korea.

GO USA!

wtf wrong with the Korean goalie!!! they should shoot him :getsome: but then the uruguayian goalie pulls the same crap...WTF... This tournament will go down as one with the most GOALIE mistakes....goaltending has been terrible!! and I dont care if they blame it on the ball, same ball for everybody and they had enough time to practice with it :getsome:

Now to the USA, well those mistakes killed them. Too bad the USA didnt show the same level of play for the whole game. I think they always had to come fro behind, not until they were down or against the wall, did they increase their intensity.

Hopefully tomorrow the ARgentinians are all full of themselves, come out too cocky and get their asses handed to them by Mexico 😀 I can only dream, I am already prepared for the worse, but hoping for the best.

Germany - England, should be an epic match, lets hope they both show up and play up to their capabilities...I'm rooting for the germans on this one.

that would be Donovan for me...

cheer up....this should help, stop watching ESPN and turn to Canal 41 for the pre/after match reports 😉

I said at the start of this thread that I worried about where the US would find goals beyond the group stage. For all the hustle and bustle out of mid-field they have no pure goal scorers. I think if Bob Bradley had an instinctive goal mouth poacher, like England's Defoe, they'd have won comfortabley.

This was the first World Cup I can remember where people that don't watch footy were getting excited about watching the US play. I don't mean the usual headline poaching; people were actually watching matches and getting wrapped up in the wonderful drama of it all.

true and true..

i think somebody mentioned that none of the US goals were scored by forwards/strikers, and I think it might even go back before the Cup?
arent 2 of their 5 goals from penalty kicks?.....

i shouldnt say anything Mexico struggles to put it in as well 😡
