well that was close....😛

Its ok Clark, I think JimN is staying away from this thread until late afternoons...

Its England's time to shine!

oh sweet.

that 3rd goal was close. i feel like it was good and the ref was wrong (i could be biased 😀 ). there were so many penalties going on in it, i feel like the offsides call was the only thing NOT happening during that kick.

USA definitely got robbed today, granted they need to stop playing from behind, but that clearly was a goal.

+1
Why dont the refs use instant replay? I understand that you cant stop the game every time a call is made but play was stopped after the goal anyway. The ball was past the defender before the player got anywhere near it. Definitely a goal.

USA deserved to win despite the poor performance on the first half. They were definitely robbed. All commentators and reporters from different countries (not only ESPN) agreed, and the played was being discussed everywhere last night. There were 2 penalties on that play that weren't called, where the Slovenian were holding the Americans. This has been a hot topic with FIFA (refereeing and instant replay) for a while now.
On the other hand, Dempsey should have been red carded at the start of the game, too.
That referee was from Mali, had no experience whatsoever, his Football Federation has only 8 teams, including Timbuktu ....ROFL...WTF!...I believe these refs shouldn't be participating in the world cup, unless they go to Europe or south America for a season to get trained in "real" games.

Another thing discussed was the pu**y Slovenian goalie on Donovan's goal....hiding behind the post:rofl:...why he didn't use his hands!!!!

Interesting to know, USA broke the record yesterday of 18 consecutive games receiving a goal in "group phase", France had 17. In fact, USA has received a goal in 20 of 21 of their last games, ironically the only one they didn't receive a goal was against MEXICO😡 in 2002 (rd of 16)

Also Germany had never lost a Group Phase match since 1986!! Terrible showing from the Germans. But Serbia is my dark horse, so I was not completely surprised.

A shame about England, cant believe they cant find the goal! But maybe I was right, they are only thinking about their ladies and not scoring!!

My thoughts exactly. Where I come from you get benched for moves like that. Also, while I'm not a die-hard soccer fan, the disallowed US goal left me feeling pretty awful. So much was at stake. Really upsetting...actually surprised that it bother me so much.

Yeah the US definitely got robbed, but what are you gonna do. At least they got a point and their fate is in their hands. All they have to do is win next week (or get a tie and hold their breath).

And yes, I stay very far away from this thread during the day when I'm at work and not able to keep up with the games.

It was very lucky the ref didn't see what Dempsey did right off the bat. It would have probably been the fastest red card in the history of the cup.

wow, this thread needs

Italy is a disgrace, its a shame the current champions are playing such poor football, I hope they don't advance, they really don't deserve it and then I would have my prediction of biggest disappointment correct 😉, but as it stands now, they are in qualifying position.

My pick Holland is doing the minimum to advance, but 2 wins have them advancing easily, I hope they are just warming up for things to come.

Nice goals yesterday by Brazil, amazing how they can create those plays, however I think they are not playing like that the whole game, at some points of the game it looked like IvoryCst had more control of the ball and were the ones really interested in scoring, but with Brazil it just takes a couple of 'artist strokes' and they are up 3-0 with almost no effort. So OK, it was a handball (2nd goal), but it was debatable 😉 just the effort and the two 'sombreritos' had the Refs in awe therefore missing the handball.

Looks like all sorts of problems in the French camp with Anelka being kicked out and then players refusing to train.

Today Portugal showed us the big gap between European and Asian soccer, it was just like a walk in the park....This should've been the same case when Brazil played North Korea, however Brazil seemed to be just in training mode in that game.

Ok, I guess I gotta work a little before the other games today...😀

Zoller--your posts are the reason I keep coming back. 😉 Is it me, or are the ladies at the soccer matches a tad bit hotter than those of Futbol Americano?

haha, is it because of my Pulitzer award winning writing skills or my visual aids😀

interesting comparison, I would have to lean toward the futbol ladies 😉

OK so every team has played 2 games now and it is looking like the Cup will come back to the Americas, South America to be exact.

Italy, England, France are playing Scheiße. Germany and Spain are showing inconsistent play. Netherlands is the only European team with 2 wins (0 goals allowed) but still haven't played convincingly. Portugal showed great play today against a very weak team, but can they keep it up when they face Spain next game or further down the tournament?

On the other hand,
Argentina, Brazil, Chile have 2 wins. Paraguay is playing strong same as Uruguay with 1 win 1 tie, however the Charruas (Uruguay have not allowed a goal against) Mexico has a tough game tomorrow vs Uruguay which would define first place on the group and who will face Argentina on the 2nd round.

The African teams have disappointed, we all had higher expectations since nowadays a bunch of African players are playing in the European leagues.

And one must not forget the visual aids 😎
In honor of today's Portugal 7-0 win

And a trivia fact for the day:

There are 208 national futbol associations affiliated to FIFA (The organization that overseas futbol worldwide) with over 265 million playing the sport (from those national associations) vs 192 countries members of the UN.

Go Portugal! I don't care if there's a world cup or not, keep posting like this every day.

too pissed off to comment, better just think of the happy place again...

now, this is what i'm talking about....

Now, I'm not even going to click that link. It's like being in one of those bars where the beer menu has 483 beers, all on tap. And you run through the list and see all sorts of things you want and you order 43 different things thinking that you'll just have a little taste of each of them, and in the end they all end up tasting the same because, let's face it, after 2 beers your taste buds are more or less shot and you might as well be swilling down Coors Light for all of the taste you get out of it.

So, I'm just going to bask in Korea for now, even though she's holding a cell phone that looks like it was used in the movie set of Back to the Future.

Its actually not THAT great. It's ok, has it's high points, but I don't think I saw anything that rivals the Portgual trio above. That is just fan-tastic.

No...I still don't want to talk about the Mexico-Uruguay game 😡

Argentina with 7 subs defeated Greece no problems and now they are facing Mexico, I won't talk about that either 😡.....I'll just say....Any given Sunday.... Ah Fuck! and Uruguay will easily advance to Qtrs since they face weak and inconsistent South Korea....Friggin' Uruguayans still have not taken any goals against 😡

South Africa of course beat the messed up France, happy for them, at least they got 1 win, too bad they become the first host nation to NOT advance to 2nd round.

Today, I get on the bandwagon...Go USA!!!
chicas-lindas-mundiales-usa-3.jpg

England has it tough today against Slovenia, I want to see if they really can play together as a team, so much talk about this team but so far on the field you might as well be looking at Uzbekistan (no disrespect to any Uzbekis 😉)
