I pull for the US as long as I can, and as promising as we look this year, I think I may need to pick some second choice teams once we get into the knockout stage.

Don't get me wrong, I expect the US to make it out of the group, I just don't see us going much further beyond that. I know this is supposed to be "a big year" for us, but I've been hurt before and don't want to go through the same emotional trauma caused by having too much faith in America's ability to score on an international level.

Italy was my fall back favorite last WC, and as much as I would like to see it happen again, after seeing them in the confeds cup, my hopes are low. Who to root for then? I guess I will just wait and see who outlasts US.

North Korea scored against Brazil. Could you imagine if they made it out of the group stage? HA!

307 views for this thread.....i guess this is no surprise
I think that freaking poll about a name change or a thread about Norm farting are way more popular than this...😀

what do "yous" think after watching every team play?

Well, my Dark Horse better get its shit together after that one horrible loss. (Serbia 0 - 1 Ghana)

Argentina had a good start although not convincing enough.

As I said, Germany and Brazil were themselves like always, both won, of course Germany more spectacular. I think this German team had something hiding. I hope it only gets better.

But I have to say, I am really disappointed about the lack of goals. It has to be the lowest average so far, no wonder 'Gringos' complain 😀. Most of the teams need to stop worrying about NOT LOSING and try to score some damn goals. What is this shit of having the 11 people on the team inside the box defending!! I know the gap has been closed between countries and the old blowouts are not as common anymore, but come on. Paraguay - Italy, perfect example of lousy game, not taking enough risks.

Spain didn't disapoint, it already flopped...0-1 vs Switzerland...I think Spain is afraid of "the big stage" so many talented players, but can't score for shit...same 'disease' Mexico has.

and England....oh England....I told you, the goalkeeper was day dreaming about some other player's wife.....just one example :drooling:

:hmmm: maybe this is what this thread needs to get more views :hmmm:

I'm rooting for both Mexico and the U.S., mostly Mexico though because that country gives a $hit if they win or not, and my GF is Mexican. Green is also my favorite color.

Well (as you can tell) I am hardly a soccer fan, but I do look forward to the World Cup. I have to say...today's match between Switzerland and Spain was a pleasure to watch. I could actually see tactics and strategy at work. And Spain's constant missed-strikes kept it interesting.

I hate those damn horns that the fans keep blowing at the games! (I've heard this is an African thing?) I wish I could hear the different chants that each team's fans have instead. I am usually asleep by the 10:00 minute mark because of those horns! Man they suck. I can't imagine anybody other than a die-hard soccer fan would be interested in watching a televised game because of those horns! Really hate the horns. Seriously, whats the fun of going to a game and blowing into a horn for 90 minutes?

You're just jealous. I'm going to put one on my bike and ride around with it 😉. And Uruguay is man handling SA. That goal from Forlan was awesome.

I dont know why I dont found it annoying, i must have an antivuvuzela filter built in me noggin...

I guess CHANTS are better, but horns have been in games since forever, they were just called different in every country...problem is when you have an idiot right behind you blowing that thing for the 90mins straight...now that IS annoying. So think about it, it could be worse if you were at the stadium. Although Im sure after a few beers you would be blowing your own vuvuzela 🙄

I couldn't imagine someone blowing that in my ear for 90 minutes...rather chew off my right leg. After a few beers, though...you are probably right; I'd be blowing in one too. Still, it is a travesty. I don't get to hear the 'oles' or the excitement build in the crowd when a goal is about to be attempted. Just the monotony of bees buzzing.

BTW--what is the story with England's goalie? Did he really have a thing with another player's wife (pic above)? Is he a D-bag? Kind of feel bad for the guy...but then again maybe I should just laugh. I have to imagine they want him crucified in Eng.

Not one of the favorites has looked convincing so far. Germany's drubbing of Australia had as much to do with how dire the Aussies were as anything else. Argentina huffed and puffed to get through their opening match.

I'd like to see the African teams go far this time around and I feel bad for S.A. after today's result; but they were never really in the match. I’d be very happy if Portugal didn’t progress, I could do without Ronaldo’s diving and whining in the knockout stages. Italy looked old and bereft of ideas in their match. They have to be the worst defending champions I can remember. Their cynical, hacking, defending, acting and counter attacking style doesn’t deserve to get them back to the final but unfortunately you can never count them out.

As I said earlier in the thread, the US v England result wasn't a surprise and I'd back both sides to get out of the group stage at this point: Barring any TRUE upsets in their remaining matches.

Totally agree with you on this one.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get another legendary Argentina vs Germany match either in the semis or the final.

SA could be the first ever host to dont advance to the 2nd round. As far as the other African teams I was counting on Ivory Coast to be the one to advance further, but they didnt show me much.

Now tomorrow Mexico has a must win game against the French.

All this World Cup talk and all you soccer fans, yet there is only like 47 people at each Red Bulls game, go figure.

The general quality in MLS hasn't been high enough for me to get excited about. I have a couple of friends that are season ticket holders though. I've been a Liverpool supporter since I was seven, and was at Anfield for the match last Boxing Day.

I vivid memories of every World Cup since 82'. There is nothing else like it. I've promised myself that this year I won't get disfunctionally depressed when England get knocked out.

I used to go to see the Metrostars with my dad quite a bit, but then Premiere League games became available in HD.

I have been avoiding this thread because I'm unable to watch the games live. I Tivo them and when I get home I watch three games and then go to bed. I'm very surprised Spain lost. It's amazing that they can have so much talent, have so much experience playing together, and then not get the job done. I was figuring on them or Germany for winners this year, and I still think they'll get their act together and go far. We didn't really learn much about Germany in their opening game, although the scoreline makes it look otherwise. We at least know they aren't afraid to attack, unlike everyone else who is afraid to give up a goal. I hope Messi is finally able to get it done for Argentina, and I hope I manage to not find out about it before I see the game.

I hear you about not wanting to know the score, I'm recording all games too and I am avoiding the internet as much as possible.
although, if I can, I put the live coverage on my PC here at work
http://futbol.univision.com/fifacopamundial/partidos-en-vivo
I even changed my home page so I don't see the scores by accident.

I think the only safe place is MTBNJ, since nobody cares about futbol.

We promise we wont put any scores here before the games are over.

BTW, I think it is all about TEVEZ and not MESSI, for some reason Messi can't play when he is wearing his country's colors. I also cant understand why Milito is on the bench! I favor him over Higuain, but anybody can be a coach at home 🙄

I watched some of the games on espn360 the other day when it was slow at work. I'd rather not have the distractions of work getting in the way though, so I just wait til I get home to watch them normally. Everyone where I work is a Mets or Yankees fan, and nobody cares about soccer, so I don't have to worry about them talking about any games and ruining the score.

I think Messi's problem is that Barcelona and Argentina have such different styles of play. It's gotta be tough to play the Spanish style of passing/possession all year, and then jump in with his national team. I'm hoping he comes alive today and never looks back. Argentina has several great strikers, I don't know how you pick one over the other.

if you're ona government or college network you can get espn3.com live which is amazing quality!

poor korea =[
