where did i go?

woke up today with better vision than yesterday. kinda weird. i have depth perception that i havnt really had and the blindspot is kinda turning into a blurryness instead. this is a good thing. although im kinda dizzy from it because i can see a bit more and my good eye isnt overcompensating as much as it has been i guess cause the bad is seeing better. this is quite a strange process.

Great to hear that you're on the mend!!! Try to avoid bumping into stuff and falling over while you adjust to the improved vision. There will be plenty of time for it when you're back on the bike 😀

God bless, dude! Really happy for you!

Sounds like you're on the road to recovery! Good news.
I can relate to the vision issues you're having. 6 years ago I had laser surgery on my eyes. (granted, mine was voluntary) I was terribly nearsighted (I could'nt function with out my glasses)
The first few days were the worst. For the first 24 hours my eyes were in pain and were sensitive to any sunlight. Stuff was blurry. I just told myself over and over that this pain is temporary and it'll all be worth it in the end. It was 4 or 5 days till my vision improved enough that I felt safe enough to drive. My vision still wasn't 100% yet and it wasn't for another 4 months.
If anybody's considering corrective eye surgery I say do it. I'm glad I did.

these meds are the absolute worst. they make me feel like an absolute zombie, they make me sweat and retain water. they also make me a bit confused from time to time. thankgod i only have 3 more days on them. my neuro said that i can take all 5 pills at breakfast instead of spreading them out throughout the day. i think id rather get really zonked out early in the day and be comfortable for the afternoon and evening. i havnt really slept all that much more than like 3 hours each night from the meds. i fall asleep and wake up all paranoid and full of anxiety. god i hate this process.

Damn that sucks. Good thing you have just several days to deal with though. I got most of those symptoms after I was on them for a while. One thing that helps A LOT with those symptoms are opiate pain killers, but they are narcotics and your doctor "should" only prescribe them if you have some intense pain. Darvocet is the weakest one. They have their own side-effects but you feel more euphoric than "crappy all the time" as with cortico-steroids.

this morning has been the worse morning thus far on this med. i took it early in the day yesterday in one dose(as directed by my neurologist so that i might sleep better at night). i felt like shit all day long with dizzyness, weakness and especially confusion. last night i did actually fall asleep at a decent time and slept for about 4 hours before i woke up. was awake about 20 minutes and fell back asleep till about 7 this morning when my girlfriend woke up for work. when i woke up i noticed that i basically felt nearly crippled. no pain involved just extremely weak. when i tryed to stand up i practically fell and my girl had to help me. i only have 3 more days on it, but its RUINING me. i dont want to say i regret the decision to take it because it really has helped me with my eye, but the side effects of it are nothing short of hell. i almsot want to just stop taking them all together and just say F-it. if this is what hell feels like i want out...

actually the neuro has me not tapering off of them. after thursday he just wants me to stop. friday cant come soon enough.

I think for amount the time you took it, it's ok to do cold turkey (also depends on dosage, I think) - obviously the doc should know. If you take it for a long time, your own body stops making it's own steroids, that's why if you cold turkey it, it's really really bad. You can actually die from it. I was on 80mg for like 2yrs, then like another 3yrs when I relapsed, and had to do the taper both times.

MIG, hang in there and keep the long term outlook in mind. You'll make it through.

Gary from Bike N Gear <--(his screen name here) has had a lot of experience with this stuff. Shoot him a PM, since he hasn't weighed in on this thread.

Word, or just give him a call at the shop: (732) 873-0212. Tell him ChrisG sent ya. If you tell him Norm sent ya he might hang up :hysterica

Just hang in there man. I don't think taking them all in 1 shot is a good idea. But you gotta do what you gotta do. It's an experience, and it will make the time out of this experience even better.

last day on the meds. neuro had me wean today and go off of them tomorrow. i couldnt be happier about this. this crap has made me basically lose touch with reality over the past week.

Looking forward to your return. I think when you get back to normal, (insert joke here) your return will be a great reason for a ride.

eye is getting a lil better each day. im kinda coming around a bit of a bend right now with how im actually seeing. for the past week its been really tough because im trying to see without getting dizzy. its weird to say that its actually harder getting better than it was when i was getting worse, BUT im getting there. im not out of the woods YET, but i definetly got a map to get out of it. hope to be back on the trails in a month or so if all goes well. im going to have to really work to get back to where i was. ive lost a great amount of muscle in my legs and the rest of my body as well. today was day 40 of this ordeal. getting there....

Wow, 40 days? I had no idea it was so long. Listen, you have your whole life to ride your bike. Get yourself better and then ride as much as you want. And again, hang in there.

haha yeah. well actually if you want to get technical its been 47 days since the pain started but 40 since the vision issues started. ill get there. this old english guy told me the other day "everyday on this side of the turf is a good day". i think when im done recovering ima get that tattooed on me, lol.

a little update. my eye is still improving a bit. it kinda feels like it did in the beginning where im having a hard time focusing and such. its a pain in the ass but im getting there. id say i probably have about 80% or more vision in the eye which is way better than it was. still kinda dizzy from it though at times when i focus on something close than look across the room. im staying as patient as i possibly can under the circumstances. i just want it back to normal so i can restart my life again.

was wondering how you were doing dude..glad to hear you are on the mend let me know if you want to hit the trails we can hook up with some of the guys from the office and cruise.
