What have you done to your car today?

Took the mustang out saturday night........winding it up from a traffic light on 10 and suddenly the engine turned off. Thankfully I was right near Joyce honda which had a nicely lit parking lot. Car had fuel, so I figured it was either a wire somewhere, or something ignition related.....confirmed that when I pulled the coil wire...and bingo...no spark. Well whatever, this is why I having free towing on my car insurance and I much rather just get the car home. So I called hagerty....took about 15 minutes to explain to the person on the phone the most basic of things....They were obviously from a call center where English is not typically spoken...but we got thru that. They sent the two truck.....after 90min...still hadnt show up....I check the status and it says the tow truck was on site...WTF???? So finally I get in touch with them again for them to tell me the first tow truck wasnt coming, so they are sending another one....awesome....but now its close to midnight. Second truck came, get the car on......got it into my garage....

Next morning I pulled the distributor cap/rotor to find this.

So im going with the ignition module burnt out.....I installed this in 1999 and have never touched it, so whatever

Funny, I remember when I bought this distrubutor in 1999 (this was before the petronix ones came along) people were like, omg, dont buy that, they always break......25 years, im saying thats not bad.

Had my sons car repaired and when it came back the alarm would not beep when it was set. Then the neighbors were telling us that the alarm was going off in the middle of the night. I sleep with a low speed fan and a white noise machine so no way in hell I am hearing this. Good thing my middle son sleeps light and he had the keys in his room to shut it off.

After a bit of research I found that there is a rubber bumper under the hood that engages the alarm switch that may be misaligned or worn out. Tested this by manually pressing in the switch plunger and arming the alarm and Bingo the car beeped when I set it.

Took a sink washer and some duct tape and wrapped the bottom of the rubber stopper and problem solved.

Changed my radiator fluid because 100k. Wanted to empty the overflow reservoir which is held in by a 10mm bolt. Said 10mm bolt snapped flush leaving me with no way to secure the bolt. Now it's just dangling.

FML. That's what I get for preventative maintenance.

I would have done the same - suction or siphon are for the meek......

Can you drill a new hole above/below/next to the broken bolt? Hopefully an easy fix.

If I take out the whole radiator fan assembly. 🙂 Assuming none of the bolts holding that in don't also snap...

Only a few inches of space between the bolt threads and the engine. I may see if I have a short jobber drill bit and a 90 degree drill adapter somewhere. If I could just zip tie it down I'd leave it at that.

I'd blame 7 or so years of NJ salty winters...

this ones for @Carson, when you wash your own car (lol) do you have any type of spot free rinse system? iv been seeing ads for these things that supposedly treat the water so you dont get water spots without drying. any experience with them? it seems too good to be true to me.

I haven't ever messed with deionized water systems. Pretty much all of the ceramic boosters/maintainers also can be used as a drying aid.

I do spritz a mist of CarPro Reload on the panels while they are still wet. It helps for a spot free finish (with a drying towel) and boosts the ceramic coating. It works as a decent quick and easy hydrophobic coating, but it will only last a few weeks at best.
