Back in June I had my alternator fail and it ruined the battery so they both got replaced at the local repair shop.
Yesterday afternoon I went to move my car after unloading some stuff in the driveway and when I pressed the button to start the entire dash went dark and the car had no power.
Went under the hood thinking the battery maybe was faulty and found this.
The little cinch bolt that holds the terminal on broke off. So the terminal was just sitting there and it was loose enough to not make contact. My assumption is they overtightened it when they put in the new battery.
I moved it over to make contact and drove it over a few minutes away to the shop. They took it right in and he kinda mccgyvered it but didn’t charge me anything.
While I’d prefer the OEM replacement this is functional enough for me. And the price was right.

unless they ordered the proper parts and are having you come back its a bandaid at best, id be unhappy if it were my car.

I bet they chucked the plastic box the terminal was wrapped in...would fit what transpires being their work ethic.

The only mechanics I trusted to work on my vehicles have sadly passed away. Maybe I should look at the 4-post lift…

I don’t disagree it was kinda klugey repair but the car is from 2013 has almost 100K miles on it and I just need it to last me until next spring so I can replace it.
If it was a newer car and I was keeping it longer I would have complained but I just got too many other life things I’m dealing with to let this one bother me this time.

had the car since 2016 and 36K miles as a CPO. Spent a lot of time working at home and then COVID so it hasnt been used as much, but its had way too many issues for the low miles it has (thankfully most covered under the CPO warranty before it expired).
just biding my time hoping in the spring i can get something a little more up to date even if I will have to do tires and brakes before the winter.
It's pretty mind blowing how little you can drive when WFH. Lack of daily driving adds up.
It occurred to me recently that it's almost expensive in a way as it's insurance/registration/property-tax/depreciation that's amortized over fewer miles driven. I hardly drive now but still have those fixed costs (we have property tax on cars in NC). And in 5 years I'll have a car that's 15 years old but not a lot of miles.
Better than driving it a ton of miles all those years for sure, but still a cost.

yea i was wfh during covid and then hybrid until this year, it sure saved me a shit-ton of miles. The commute is killing me right now, hopefully its short lived and goes back to hybrid (which was being implemented in 2018 so no reason to go back to the dark ages now)
