What have you done to your bike today?

After 4 months in "XC mode" back to trail mode for the week in Kingdom ft. @ebarker9 @GenghisCon @Ned Schneebly . Should just about be the ideal bike for the job from what I hear.

120 mm SID -> 130mm Pike
I9 1/1 UL wheels -> I9 TR 280's
Barzo/Mezcal -> Rekon/Forekaster

New forks, fully converted to boost with a new wheelset instead of rear boost/thru and front QR, and rebuilt drivetrain. After being away for a week yesterday I was bound and determined to try out the refreshed ride. All I can say is that it exceeded all expectations.

Being home bound I finally took the time to put back together the Fugitive. Got rid of the Stan’s Barons with Hope hubs and put back on the refreshed DT Swiss wheelset with a Cushcore in the rear, updated the cranks to 170 mm, the raised pedal stroke allowed for a longer travel dropper post, 200 mm from the original 175 mm. All thanks to special sales on Jenson (cranks) and Fox (dropper). Also got rid of the Formula speedlock that leaked from day one (great idea on paper, not so much once installed) only comfort being it leaked at the speedlock joint and not where I adapted the formula hose at the lever and the banjo at the caliper. Fully serviced the suspension bearings and completely replaced the linkage, got rid of the orange accents on the original linkage. Brand new X2 courtesy of Fox, as they now replace every 2021 unit sent to them for service, no question asked. Oh and orange bling from Fox on the 38…all these parts took months to accumulate while the bike was in pieces.

That is a great bike and nice color combo. Now you just need to actually ride it. 😛

The one bike I miss more than anything for the type of riding I do now was my Surly ECR - I have looked for one in my size for two years with zero luck. In looking at the Salsa Fargo the numbers and storage were pretty close, once I saw it fit a 29x3” tire it was game on. This bike was built for having fun.

See you out there.

How much clearance do you have for the shock and tool box? Looks tight

Treated the Tarmac to some new rotors, hoping to get out tomorrow to give them some break-in time.

The chainring from Alugear came super quick, so I threw that on the new gravel ride. Added some cool frame protection as well. Good timing as the bike took a tumble while posing for this pic.

Today I only switched out the seat, but yesterday it was a bare frame that I put together with other parts I had plus a few new ones. Been wanting to put this together for decades. It was a bike my brother bought used when it was a year old. Then I bought it from him for my wife to ride before she lost interest. The Tange fork was still unused until yesterday. The bike had been built with a Manitou 1 but the unused fork came with it and I never managed to lose it.

It rides really nice. Found a ‘magic gear’ on the cassette temporarily with a 36/21 and I think I’ll keep that ratio when I get the cassette off. I’ll be using this to ride around town and warm up type stuff. A properly lined up single cog and some different tires will finish it up, maybe a set of Smart Sams.

I feel an airplane quote is needed
Striker Sir?
......
Jimmy Wilson: Can I ask you a question?

Ted Striker: What is it?

Jimmy Wilson: It’s an interrogative statement, used to test knowledge. But that’s not important right now…

I don't usually get into 12th gear, but every time I do I get this skipping of the drive train,
I always have to drop to 11th gear to ride. Today it dawned on me! I know what it is!
My mechanic once explained to me why I should stick with a Sram chain on my Sram
drive system. Because 12th gear being so small they make the master link curved, so
it rides better over that small gear! Yup, you got it, last chain change I put the master link
on backwards, thus it couldn't ride smoothly. Change the link today and fixed the problem.

I'll have to remember that as my next road bike will likely have 12 spd. AXS. While I have AXS on two mtn bikes, those are running Shimano 12 spd cassettes and chains.

Shock swap back to freshly serviced coil . Park rat has been on air shock this season as I've been loving the extra pop . Did this swap while watching the free ride film (nothings for free ) things might get a lil rowdy at creek this weekend lol .
