Wawayanda Spring Cleaning

Look up some of Oreo's videos, he has Wawayanda 08' in there. I'm not sure about the course, but I would think we'll see some of the same stuff.

Scott

FYI although his videos are great, the course this year feels like a totally different place than last year for me, runs in the opposite direction (which I think is nicer)and is just different.

Dumb noob question...I watched one of the videos and it seems like everyone has a jersey & pretty much nobody has a camelbak? How do you carry water- bottle in the jersey pocket? Why is this better than a camelbak for racing?

really personal preference. bottles make you feel like a racer, camlebacks are more practical.

I have never raced but have been to a few to watch. I guess personal preferance is what it comes down to. I have seen many times guys dropping their bottles trying to drink. Plus I dont think you can really find a good time to reach down, grab the bottle, drink, then put it back during a race. I would *think* that if you were comfy wearing a camelbak it would be easier just to flip the straw into your mouth. Do what ever makes you comfortable, you're not being scored on style.🙂

My thoughts exactly...just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I figure I can carry more water in the camelbak & dont have to worry about losing it. Plus when I crash it protects my spine 😀

Totally preference. Bottles keep the weight off of your back and just make for a more comfortable race. And for waway there are a bunch of fireroads which are perfect spots to drink. Camelback allows you easier access to your hydration and more of a thoughtless hydration process.

Most of the time I ride with bottles but lately I've been doing the pack for some reason. Guess I got used to it when I was riding with it during winter. I think I am going pack because of the more technical terrain and the expected the mud and slipperyness. I'll forfeit the racer look for ease of drinking but I do agree that bottles are more comfy when your pack isn't bouncing around :hmmm:

This is huge for me. I don't want anything on my back when I race, or ride at all for that matter.

The pros use bottles. You can learn to grab your bottle, drink, and have it back in the cage in 20 feet, and you don't have to look. Eventually you get good enough to even be able to do it in less than ideal terrain. You need to practice when you're not racing and you want to be used to gulping as much as you can as fast as you can.

I'm using a camelbak. If this is your first race and using a camelbak is what you usually do, then don't change it now.

50 degrees and wet is forcasted for tomorrows race.

Think a short sleeve Jersey and bib shorts will be warm enough once i get warmed up? or will I freeze my arse off?

getting butterfiles about the race. I may be puking rainbows tomorrow morning.🙁

I'll use camelbak, much more convenient than bottles (I use bottles only on my road bike). Besides, I can carry all other things such as spare tube, tools and etc.
