Wawayanda Spring Cleaning

So the white trail is still in the course? I thought it was out. We are talking about the teachie singletrack that followed the super steep little singletrack climb after the lake in the original direction, right?

I have to admit, the course as I understood it did not knock me out. There was way too much fire road, and the new singletrack felt like bunny slope stuff that requires no skill to clean. If I was wrong about the white trail being taken out, than it will be better than I thought, although I was disapointed that we don't get to ride down that switchback climb that has been tormenting us for years. I will come back and eat my words if it turns out to be more fun in a competitive context. It is my understanding that the Ringwood race is also going to be hosted by the same folks that took over this race? I sure hope that race doesn't get sanitised, especially now that there is some super sweet new singletrack there that I would love to see in the race.

We are not Sanitizing any course this year. You will be racing pretty much the same trails as years past but with additional trails which make the course longer that are fast and fun. If you are referring to the steep climb off the lake as the switchback climb then wait until you climb the wall on red dot about a mile from the end of the course this climb makes up for that one. There are also plenty of other climbs steep enough to make it hurt.

If you come out of this race feeling like you are still fresh you simply didn't race hard enough.

I wouldn't criticize the course until you come down and race it.

With regard to Ringwood there are only certain trails that can be used as a race course because of where it has to start and finish and connect singletrack sections to singletrack sections.

Sounds like it's gonna be fun😀 Waywayanda is a cool place and has a pretty well-rounded mix of sections. Like GraveYardMan said, not a walk-in-the-park roadie course like Tymor or Stewart. Albeit Tymor and Stewart are my 2 favorite races:hmmm:

We rode the course today and found it to be a great mix. Made challenging by a mix of technical sections and climbing. A big change from the winter riding spots for sure.
It is going to be a good, HARD race. I just hope it is not this HOT!!!!!

To re-iterate for some of the naysayers. This course is not hard to ride if you have good skills in the rocks and yeah there are some fire roads (double track). When you start talking about racing and pushing your limits the trails become entirely different animals. This course will be tough at a race pace. My advice is to keep your head screwed on straight, don't get frustrated in the tech sections and make up your time in the final 2/3 of the course.

Great interpretation. That's my plan too.

Especially intimidating for those of us who never raced. A couple of us first timers rode the course twice yesterday. First time quickly, the second lap was more of a strategy thing for me because I ran out of steam.

Mr. Graveyardman's advice seems to make good sense to a novice like me. Thanks.

On a different note...

Good luck to everyone racing! I would love to be out there Sunday myself, but several AP exams are next week and need to crack down those hours studying.

Again, good luck everyone!

I love the first race of the year. I always get pumped up and want to do it now kind of mind going. Every time I think about it it makes my heart speed up. I can't wait for Sunday. See you there and good luck to all.

Let see if I stick to it. Somehow when every race takes off at the start I feel obligated to get in front. This strategy seldom works (for me).

Going out too hard at the start is my trouble too. This will be my 4th race of the season. This time I will start slower and finish stronger, after all it's not who is leading at the first climb ... it's who's leading at the finish

RC ... 🙂

Due to the lovely pollen, looks like this is the first Wayway Race i'm going to miss. Great way to start the season, hope I don't miss anymore or else i'm out.

Drag dude hope you feel better. Check out this Nasalcrom stuff I used to really suffer and then I started using this spray a couple of weeks before the season hits and I am just amazed.
