Wasn't feeling my best this morning, and as such raced to have fun. And fun I did have. Great course, I loved/hated the climb. The downhill coming down from it was such a blast. All around good ride. Results sucked though, 16th out of 22 or 23. But had fun, rocking my new MTBNJ.com colors. My GF finished 2nd in beginer 15-35 females, yet again medaling while I did not.

Here are a ton of photos from the start of the beginner race, during the beginner race, and the start of the expert race. See you all as lewis morris.

Good race overall, though there was a serious lack of familiar faces. I knew maybe 3 or 4 dudes there and everyone else was a complete stranger. I knew absolutely no one in my sport 30-39 race.

Dave (Panhead) was second in his class and his daughter Veronica won in the juniors again I believe. Joe (joeskin) with the big 3! and headed towards a second place division title behind Dave. Looks like I'm going to the awards banquet this year.

Personally I felt decent though not great. Legs and lungs felt good though my head wasn't really in it and my arms were killing me by the end and I wonder if push-ups yesterday might have had something to do with that. No clue on times and places. Weird race. At least it wasn't raining.

No, just a sister. Ivana Tinkle. 😛 Tinkle it did on my way home. The expert race must have been a hoot!

Luckily for me, my tire malfunction got me back to the car just before the heaven's opened up, I think it was a sign😀

Nice, there is always a bright side! I know the rain washed my bike nicely, so I'm sure you ride was squeaky clean when you got home too.

I'll give ya my report. First of all it was a great race and Tim S. did an awesome job with the trails.

I got a great warmup too bad the start was a little delayed. Anyway the first lap was pretty good with a couple of miscues. I got a stick stuck in my wheel pretty early on where I had to jump off and yank it out. So I kept on. Later on after the climb by the lake someone wanted to pass and me being the good guy that I am yeilded and caught a stump with my pedal which forced me to dismount and go back and get my bike. This should have been the first sign that today was a mechanical day. I felt great but there was a TON of bottlenecking. It was going on the ENTIRE first lap. I felt even better when we got to the climbs so I fired up those where we could actually pass and got a few positions. After that it started to pan out. Once again I forgot to eat as I started lap 2 so I had to fit that in.

Lap 2 I start getting into the twisty stuff and having a decent time with less traffic when the rear starts getting squishy...really squishy. I actually start pogoing when I put power down. When I got to the fireroad I had to stop and air up. At first the C02 wasn't working so I had to do it twice to make sure it was good. Lost 3 spots. Jumped on and continued wondering how long it would last. Just as I started to head towards the climbs the rain started...hmmm...it is expert class right? So it rained and the course was still good. I ate as I crossed the soccer field in preparation for what was to come. Climbs were fine, downhills were cool and went in for lap 3.

Lap 3 was underway but the tire I could feel was going down. Actually as it lost pressure I had better traction in the deteriorating conditions but I knew it would soon diminish more. I kept on. Conditions were bad. The course was stoopid greasy. If the laps were 6 miles I think I rode an extra mile - sideways. Everyone was slipping and sliding and you could really tell those that could handle the bike. It was just a matter of staying consistent. I was in 8th after I aired up and held it into the 3rd lap. Nick White was getting some legs and came through when I was trying to get back on the bike after running the water crossing. So I had him in my cross hairs. I did the best I could on the climb as I could feel some power decreasing and got to the top of the climbs pretty well.

Here's where it all fell apart. As I started the final sweet downhill all was going good. I hit that birm and was rocking it pretty good when I came on a little 5' rock garden that you had to float over. Since I had little air left in my tire the rear hit a little harder than I expected and when I hit it my deraileur snagged a spoke and completely shredded itself in half. The chain dumped into the wheel and it was FUBAR'd. I threw it on my shoulder and ran and walked till I got out of the woods. By then I had lost 4 more spots. I knew the race was over so I took out my tool and took off the remainder of the deraileur and chain and rode and ran with my expensive scooter to the finish line. And just for my fans I spun my butt off across the line to put on a show which got a nice applause and lots of laughter from the peanut gallery. And after all was said and done I came in 13th of 15. It was a really good day, the results just didn't show it 😀 I had a blast. The Mohican 100 is next....
