The way to unlearn it is to practice unclipping or taking foot off in different situations, flat, front wheel up on something, front wheel lower than rear, etc. over and over and over.Cant teach an old dog new tricks... I can say this because @jklett is 1 yr? older than me
And loosen them all the way to the lowest spring setting. Also, if running SPD's consider the SH-56 "multi release" cleat. I've never used it, I use the standard SH-51 but understand the SH-56 to release more easily in more directions. The way to unlearn it is to practice unclipping or taking foot off in different situations, flat, front wheel up on something, front wheel lower than rear, etc. over and over and over.

No love for Diawa?
Many Diawa reels in my fold....and more to come this winter. Shimano is my crossover between biking and fishing and holds my crown for best spinning reel. When Diawa delivers fantastic brakes......I'll reconsider.Cane pole with a drop line FTW.
