Ridin' Solo

My riding partner didn't show up for our regularly scheduled Sunday morning ride this week. I was worried that I would have a crumby ride by myself. I always ride with a group or one other person. I actually really enjoyed riding solo. Just went exploring riding stuff I hadn't ridden before or stuff in the other direction. It was a great ride. My husband was also at the park at the same time doing his own thing. It was kind of cool. 😎

I ride quite a bit by myself, and I find it to be somewhat a form of meditation.. kind of freaks me out a bit on the more technical spots though, so I take it easy. I mostly take a quick hour or so after the wife gets home and hit up Lumpy Bumpy out to the Sussex branch and back home.... Its more funnerer though with good friends.

cant have everything.. where would you keep it?

I don't like riding solo either and always end up texting last min.( which usually doesn't work out) Once I get out there though it's ok ....

My schedule's crazy unpredictable so I ride solo most of the time and mostly in Waway. It's more fun in a group but riding solo has a few advantages. It can also be a bit freaky at Waway alone (actually with bears, snakes, etc) but I focus on riding and it makes everything betta.

Unfortunately, i ride solo most of the time. Unless my wife is around, then she'll tag along...Usually i don't mind riding solo, but sometimes it does get a little boring...

I'm not a huge fan of riding solo, but have found there is a peacefulness that comes with it when you just get out there and ride. I find it easier to ride solo on the road though. On the mtb it helps if I know the park so I don't have the momentary freak out when I second guess myself and think I'm lost 😉

SNAKES ??? LOL-- We need to talk....

Ugh....snakes.

Couple weeks ago we came upon a large copper head on Sussex branch. It was just hangin' out watching the runners, cyclists and walkers go by. I screamed like a little girl when I saw it. :scared: After that, every twig looked like a snake to me. Then when I went for a ride the next day, I ran over a little snake. Not cool.

I ride alone sometimes and like the fact that I never have to stop and regroup. It also can be quite peaceful, but if I see a bear when I am alone: I get ascared ... ::scared: They are just too big.
I ran over a ginormous black snake a few weeks ago 😱. I thought it was a root until I was on it. I should have hopped it but I froze up. I was afraid to go back and check b/c it was so big, and it may have been pissed. Either way it is cool to get out in the woods solo or with a group. You never know what adventure lies ahead.

Bear do not bother me so much as snakes - really creeps me out and like syn said, every root and twig starts to look like snakes. It's at the point now that I walk armor bridge crossings before riding them to make sure snakes are absent.

Hopefully this doesn't deter anyone from riding solo - many times it's the only way to go. If you live in northern NJ, try riding trails with more mtbking traffic like RW or JH...

Yikes...I heard those big black snakes can be fiesty. Wonder if a snake can actually bite you when you are on a bike? How fast can they slither? IDK...they really creep me out.

I used to always ride solo...because my husband was waaaay ahead of me and I felt like I was by myself. Riding in groups made me anxious. Now I'm ok with it. Actually, started to think I couldn't ride unless I had someone to go with 'til I was forced to go solo Sunday. Guess it's good to mix it up sometimes. Very refreshing.

It's all good

I've always ridden alone quite a bit - both mtb and road. But I've been getting a little more sociable lately. Riding alone is good, riding in a group is good, riding with random folks you meet in the parking lot is good.

My intention was not to single out Jason, as other guys are posting in this thread. When someone browses for new posts, it does not specify which forum the post is sitting in. I think the feedback is that it is OK for guys to post to some of these threads, as long as the responses are germane & add value to the topic.

That being said, I frequently ride solo.

ditto
....all that plus I am often the slowest person in an given group. So even if I *could find ppl who rode at the bizarre times I ride, I might not be able to keep up. I do hate riding solo in Waway though. If it were up to me I'd never do that.

I find riding solo really peaceful and meditative. No worries about going too slow for some, too fast for others. I can stop and re-do a section if I bobbled it or just to practice a new line.

However when riding solo I stay in parks I know well and someone always knows where I'm riding and when I'll be home. I won't deviate from that without calling to let them know.
