Need suggestion for riding pants.

Any tips on whats light and comfortable outside of the spandex scene? Im fully aware that the cycling specific 'tights' are best for all levels of riding, I just cant get with it at this point. Jeans I find to be the worse, and moto type pants are too heavy and flashy for me. If anyone can relate to what im saying please share your favorite semi-baggie pants. Thanks

There's not much of a choice besides the lycra tights and DH type pants. Like you pointed out, DH pants are too heavy for XC type riding. My recommendation is to get a good pair of tights with chamois and wear a pair of baggy shorts over them. It will help you get over the 'look' while you transition into a full time leg shaver. :D

I have Kona Primo pants from Cambria, but unless you have the body of a teenage boy they are no longer available:(

FFT,

I understand your dilema. I'm not ready for tights and don't know if I'll ever be. In the warmer months I'll wear a pair of padded undershorts with a cargo short on top with great results. The colder months I struggle with a pair of jeans but too, looking for something more bike oriented but more casual than spandex.

Endura stuff is top notch. I've got several pieces of endura clothing and love them all. But no pants so I cant speak form personal experience.

I do have some cannondale grind pants and they are awesome. They have the zippers so you can make them shorts when it gets too hot.

I have noticed the chamois sucks though. Id recommend buying some bike shorts and wearing them underneath for the cushion.

+1 on Endura pants. Love 'em. Couldn't get used to tights. These have nice relaxed fit and are warm enough for me. Has zippers and velcro fasteners for tightening up cuffs to keep out of chain. Been using for over a year when too cold for shorts.

I sometimes wear running pants over my cycling shorts. mine taper at the bottom, have an elastic cuff and a zipper at the bottom which provides a perfect "seal" at the bottom over my booties. they are form fitting without being "tight" and the tapered leg means the pants never get in the way. they get the job done perfectly even if they look kinda dorky.

these look similar to mine...

Most of the baggy shorts come with a liner that has a crappy chamios. They will work for you to start out and then one day you will realize they suck and feel like a diaper. When you get to that point, just buy of pair of Lycra shorts and wear the baggies over them.

Do the hardtail70 and throw cutoff dickies over the tights, extreme hillbilly style...

Thanks everyone. There is an oakley outlet down here I will check out, then off to dicks. All the $$ I saved on the bike will be chewed up by gear I suppose. I broke down and ordered the 5.10 low-tops, they will be much more comfy than the 3/4 I wear dh.

Can anyone comment on an Ipod compatable helmet. I like to jam out when Im alone. And, are the garmin devices, well....worth the money?
