Wilco was on Austin City Limits this past Saturday. In case you missed it (like I did), it's being rebroadcast on Ch 13 (NYC PBS) this Saturday 11/10 at 2am, so program the Tivo. I heard some of this show on XM radio a few weeks ago and the dualing guitars on 'Impossible Germany" is worth the price of admission alone.

i saw that show the other night....im really liking that Austin City Limits show. I saw this band Explosions in the Sky last week and was blown away! Just two guitars, bass, and drums....no vocals and they sounded amazing!!!

Some of you probably are already aware of Pandora, but for those who don't here it is.

www.pandora.com

It is a cool site that lets you create customized Radio Stations by entering the artist or song. Then it plays music that is similar to whatever you entered.

I have been using it to try some of the bands that have been mentioned on this thread.

I love this site. Like El says, you pick a band or song and they craft a station around it. Their algorithm is something called the Music Genome Project and it works really well. I don't really give too many thumbs down on artists I like, and for some of these bands you guys are throwing down here, I can figure out by the third song whether I can stomach some of your stuff or not 😉

Current station playing: Matisyahu Radio. Very kewl.

frank: for you I recommend Chevelle Radio. really good stuff playing at the moment.

Great live albums

Not really for you metal heads but the Radio 1 Live Lounge is a radio program in the UK where bands come in and play live. They typically cover other bands' music too and you can get some pretty cool versions of your fave songs.

Search iTunes for "Radio 1 Live Lounge" and enjoy some really good stuff:
-Scissor Sisters version of Franz Ferdinand's take me out
-KT Tunstall covering Get your freak on
-Jack Johnson covering White Stripe's My Doorbell
-Travis covering Britney Spears

Some of the Brit female singers have fantastic voices and you can really hear them when they cover songs live. Look for:
-Charlotte Church
-Lily Allen
-Natasha Beddingfield
-Girls Aloud

Again, those hard rock kids out there will likely not like this stuff but if you love live music then give it a shot.

Cheers,

Daniel.
