Man if I had a dollar for every time I hear this I'd have another Full Powered ebike 😂
It's a step i continue to warn most. Skip that thought, go right to 750w+ full power. No such thing as too much suspension either. It's only my personal opinion and you will also love either but once you join in on a group you'll be under gunned.

Just like @mattybfat discovered with his Rise, the lightweight thing isn't for everyone.. In my experience I don't personally have use for a small battery/ low output ebike. That said, we sell a bunch and many people enjoy them.

The prior rise was limited to 65nm while the new one allows you to run the full 85 nm that the ep8 can produce. The problem with that is that you will kill the battery in short order.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. It's like when
I had a similar feeing when I started shopping in early Summer 2024. All I can say is before committing stead-fast to a lightweight e-bike, test ride as many models as you can swing a leg over. Maybe it will solidify that feeling... maybe you will come to realize the weight of a full power bike doesn't matter to you as much as you thought it would. I found myself in the latter camp.
Yeah it's what I'm afraid of. I buy a Lightweight e-bike and then come to realize "meh should of just got the full" My crew I ride with are slowly getting their ebikes. So far the first one who got a full powered ebike is wishing he would of got something lighter. I guess I can be the last man standing and try theirs out before I go all in. Also not that I am any kind of big jumper or anything but I like hitting jumps where I can, picking up my front wheel a lot to clear large obstacles, and I like bunny hopping over small to medium logs just for fun and to see if I can do it. I just have a feeling with a heavier bike I won't be riding like that as much which takes some of the fun out of it for me.

Thanks I'll check you guys out when I'm ready. Some of my buddies who are also considering the Rise may purchase before me and I'll mention your shop.

Add 3 more to the local crew I saw today at Stephens. They took advantage of the blowout leftover specialized bikes.

I hated the full power eebs I've tried.

Lightweight is way more fun for my riding style.
Maybe it's because I came from motos and racing 60# downhill bikes back in the day. I'm not seeing anything holding me back on my 58# ebike, in fact I've been able to push it bigger and faster in most cases. To each their own I suppose. My rise was/is too flexy for my liking.

Yeah, I mean I'm 175 lbs so a 60lb bike is 25% of the total weight of the system. It's way more enjoyable for me to have something I can flick around and ride like a regular bike. I'm not trying to ride an eeb for 3+ hours anyway so big battery doesn't matter much to me either.

It is interesting that it is an exact dead heat now if you add up the YES, Maybe and Already Own vs the NO and Never. 51/51

I like to jump and log-overs are definitely my "thing" and I don't find the ~50 lbs. weight of the Heckler to hold me back too much. For example, today I finally attempted and cleared a set of doubles on the local trail loop that has bugged me for ages. I can get over pretty decent sized logs if I try to, although I'll admit I do tend to use the clipless crutch. I honestly haven't tried riding the e-bike with flat pedals and so far I haven't had a desire to, whereas I usually switch to flat pedals from around Thanksgiving through March.

But like matty, I also came from racing DH back in the late 90s when manhandling a 50 lbs. bike was just what we did. I had a Marzocchi Monster T on a couple of my bikes - a fork that weighs over 9 lbs - along with heavy as hell Hope Big'un hubs laced to HED 45A rims. I'm about 180 lbs. now and about 20 lbs. heavier than when I was regularly racing DH 25 years ago. Most of that in my mid-section...

Most are a bit under 50lbs unless it’s a really low end one.

I would tell anyone to demo Both a low power and full powered ebike for a real ride (2hs+) before making any purchase

So much of it comes down to who you are going to ride w. My daughter is getting faster every time we go out and I can forsee needing a little help to keep her in sight in the years to come. In that use case, I would look closely at the mondraker sly. That has a small battery, lower power motor, it can run a range extender and a really nice geo for my use.

(Yes, we have one on the shop floor btw)

I’ve settled into comfortably using up 80+% of the 750 wh battery on my shuttle am on most rides I go on with other riders on e-bikes. I’ve actually considered getting the 250wh range extender for riding in the snow as the power needed in deep snow can kill a battery a lot quicker. Plus, the battery goes faster below freezing anyway.

I have really grown to love this bike. Te geo is the same as the switchblade that I ride most often and with the added power, I can run very grippy tries which is a total hoot.

To further cloud the issue, my Pivot SL is 39.3#...my Pivot LT is 49+#(?). For a “realistic” ride, the SL is the way to go...although my jury is still out on the LT, you won’t notice much the 10# difference on the trail.

Thread title updated don't hesitate to update your poll answers. Anyone here was a solid NO in 2024 soften? The amount gained in my circle has been quite a surprise.

In 2024 a friend 25 years younger than myself got the Pivot AM, identical spec to jdogs’...I could hardly keep him in sight on the trail on my SL...so I just had to expand the arms race...😊
Happy New Year! 🎉
It's a lot easier to ride a full-power bike with less assist when needed than to get an "SL" e-bike to keep up with full-power bikes.
