Is strava going from suck to blow?

this is both SUCK and BLOW!

someone else posted this in the frown thread so double posting here. Ive been on Strava for years (since 2013?) and this is irritating they just drop a $20 increase.

I'll complain but probably renew under protest since this is where I keep all my data from my activities but this still sucks and blows...

They offered a 25% off new subscriber promo a few weeks back and ended up losing 20 something percent of current subscribers because of it. Now the idiots that are left will make up that 20 something percent with a rate increase.

Like seriously, Strava is a complete garbage training tool. Completely useless. You're paying to have your data overwritten by algorithms and kudos.

Intervals.icu > all

lol i remember norm saying the benefits of strava premium, but at this price it doesnt make any sense

The route integration is worth it alone. TF on the GARMIN isn’t as good. I use the feature easily 20 times a year riding places. Worth every penny.

Plus it costs more to bring my family to Panera for a meal than a year of Strava. Some of you guys spend $200 to ride roads you already know. It’s somewhat preposterous to get worked up about anything that costs less than $100 these days.

Some cross races cost $50 now. Per minute, Strava is like 1% of that cost. Let’s not even mention the $80 it costs to drive to & from that race 260 miles away.

All fair points.

I don’t use it as a training tool but it defaulted to the place I track and record all my activities including walks, rowing, mowing, snow shoveling , swimming etc….

I admittedly spend way too much time checking it daily but I don’t take any of it too seriously anymore. Most of what I am interested in for myself is within the data that you can only see with premium so I will just be one of those Strav-Idiots 🤪

If it didn't overwrite my data I would 100% pay for it all the time. But none of the data you pay for in Premium is yours so they can suck it. I'd rather use that $80 for a tank of gas.

Strava still only makes me 4% faster than Garmin. That blows. If they're going to increase their fee, they better increase my speed too ...at least another 2%. 😑

just curious - how so? maybe I am naive, but aside from the times when Strava clips off .1 miles or .1 avg speed compared to Garmin upload, (if you know you know), not sure I follow this?

Here's from my last ride with a Power Meter. Bikepacking. Power Average was just over 200 watts for 5 hours, pretty much my Endurance baseline. Strava overwrites that number with 140 watts because the speed was low and it's apparently impossible to average 200 watts for 5 hours with a fully loaded bike and only average 12mph.

they shouldn't override a power meter - that's weird.
Did you have your weight at 275?

do you have 0s excluded on the garmin? i bet that would explain the difference, strava doesnt let you exclude the 0s from the power numbers hence a lower averag.

I'm talking about raw power data collected by a Quarq Qollector.

I almost jumped on this just to see if the bonus stuff was worth it. It expired 1/1 and I never did, now I'm kinda priced out.

I like being able to see where friends ride to see if there's anything I can incorporate into my rides and drop a Kudo or two. Really the only reason I use Strava.

Some of us just see no value in Strava. For myself none of the extra features I really need. I don't need to kick and scream about it, but I just won't give Strava my money.

There's plenty of other services I shell out for. I still keep my grandfathered pricing TrainerRoad. I think they do it right by keeping loyal customers at a good yearly price.

Trailforks I pay twice over. I'm in at the early bird rate, and I keep giving Outside+ yearly money as they run a deal around Thanksgiving and I use their platform enough between Trailforks/Gaia/Outside.

Cross races priced me out. There's a point at which it's stupid expensive and $50 is definitely above that point. It's a lot of money for a short race, where double that and you can be doing an all-day event that feeds me. Plus it's not like I want to just choose a fun cross race, it's better as a series and then it gets wicked expensive.

Funny you mention that

Funny you mention that

Funny yet not funny. 🙁

In the end I may just cancel and maybe join in the worst winter months. It was just nice to always have the option to hop on the trainer in any point of the year when it's raining if needed.

Between running when it's dark/wet instead of biking, and moving to a more temperate climate, I don't know how much time on the trainer I plan to spend. I haven't even fully set it up here.
