Is strava going from suck to blow?

Thanks.

Garmin actually syncs fine it’s the only thing that works.

Today the C2 rower app worked fine and I didn’t do anything different.

Will try the Fitbit again which is the original problem I posted.
Opened a chat/ticket with FitBit's lame support. I found multiple discussions in the community forum reporting my same exact issue around the same time (early November).

After a long debate on why there is no way my iOS version is somehow the reason for the issues I ended up with this:

so you are confirming there is an issue on the Fitbit side with pushing activities to Strava?
09:37 am

We’re aware of it and are working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.
09:37 am
ok so will the team publish some kind of announcement to the customers? i have not seen anything
09:39 am

Our team usually send the fix through updates. I recommend that to keep your Fitbit app updated to get the fix once it is out.
09:40 am
so you are stating that the issue is with the app
09:42 am

I can see that your Versa 3 is syncing normally so the issue may be with the app.
09:45 am
not sure exactly how the app itself has anything to do with the activities syncing to Strava but OK

Here is my take.

The problem is $$$ - everyone wants to get paid.
remember when strava stopped linking sensors on their app ? that forced everyone to get a garmin or wahoo.
basically a negotiated truce - cause people wanted to sync to garmin history from strava - with no benefit to garmin.
And Garmin data was being pushed to strava - and they were selling subscriptions.

Garmin really wants to sell hardware - they are good at it, so they leveraged their position.

apple (health) and strava have gone at it too.

From strava's POV - they benefit fitbit by being able to link
From FitBit - they benefit strava cause maybe more subscriptions.
so in the end, how much will strava pay fitbit for subscriptions gained, vs how much will fitbit pay for free tier & existing.

I shifted to just using the Health and Fitness Apps on my iPhone (non-Garmin rider). Health is set to share data and I can import rides to Strava, but for some reason it would not import two rides from last weekend. Which begs the question, why do I even have strava? I'll give it a month and probably just delete it.

I get what you mean. It comes down to how these companies can influence subscriptions.

I have a free Fitbit, Garmin, Concept2 etc. account but I pay for strava because I use that app for all my activities combined in one central place but that’s just my preference because I want to see all the data across everything I do.

Fitbit has my money already because I bought the device and will likely upgrade one day. (Any Garmin watch I see is too bulky and gawdy for day to day use IMO). The “nice”
Factor of having the data sync seamlessly to where I want it to go is where the real customer satisfaction comes from since it’s my data in the first place.

Which begs the question, why do I even have strava?

Nassau Trail is where I notice the worst Strava results capture. I ride with my buddy, and he gets three more miles than me every time—same ride. That makes his average speed higher, and total year miles higher. So I borrowed a Garmin Edge 810, figuring a Garmin has nothing else to do but capture my route, and thus, should be the most accurate.

Today we rode again, this time I used the Garmin and my phone capturing Strava, both devices in back jersey pockets. (We also ran into Rick and avoided arguing about when to take Social Security.)

Strava on Pixel phone in pocket 9.86 miles
Garmin in back pocket 7.93 miles
Strava on Apple watch 12.26 miles

I suspect the phone has other things to do, and samples the GPS points less frequently, which may square off some curves, but not four miles worth. But then the Apple watch also has other things to do. And the Garmin has no excuses. Strava could tell us which devices are better and worse. A call to Garmin tech support says to buy another Garmin. Yeah, right.

I see a couple issues here with your comparison.

1)the apple watch on the handle bar (essentially your wrist is right next to the bar) likely has a better view of the sky and hence better reception.
2) did you check the garmin to make sure it is set to record max data points and not set to smart recording (or something like that) which is meant to reduce data points and save storage space (and maybe battery too?)
3) all 3 of those distances are wrong. The only way to truely know is with a wheel speed sensor that is manually calibrated.

Even as a paid member I can't see my year in review without owning a cell phone.
It used to be you could see your year in review, but they changed that. 😕

Meh. I keep watching these suckers post their year ends like they didn't do 80% of it indoors. It's all faked so roadies feel good about how bad they suck in real life.

this is both SUCK and BLOW!

someone else posted this in the frown thread so double posting here. Ive been on Strava for years (since 2013?) and this is irritating they just drop a $20 increase.

I'll complain but probably renew under protest since this is where I keep all my data from my activities but this still sucks and blows...

Subscription isn't worth it. I dropped mine (for other reasons) 2 years ago. Free version is fine.

Until they run out of money and it disappears. My guess is they load it up with ads next, since they haven't figured out a way to get more people to pay for it.

Surely charging the measly user base we do have 33% more is the ticket to financial solvency!

Yeah, might as well get ready for ads 😛

If they really go crazy with them, then maybe people will pay for premium in order to not see them.

I imagine the bike industry which is about to eat shit in 2023 is going to be knocking down their door to buy up ad space. I wonder who's going on Strava beyond immediately after their ride to check their segment times and deal a few kudos.

I'll be shocked if Strava is around for 2025.

lol i remember norm saying the benefits of strava premium, but at this price it doesnt make any sense
