Saturday
It feels good not having to work on weekends, so needless to say I felt good this weekend and it ain't over yet.
Yesterday I woke up at my leisure and moseyed on over to Hartshorne. The plan was to put in 3hrs. of endurance pace between here and Huber. Before I tell you who I rode with let me tell you about my secret at Hartshorne. I'm talking about the
Claypit Creek lot on Locust ave. This is THE place to park when mtbing here, the lot was put in about a year ago. This blows the Buttermilk lot off of Navasink ave. away. Use the Claypit Creek parking lot and you'll understand. You can always find a parking spot, the porta-john is right there, the lot is on the former Fisher Stern estate so its beautiful, hardly anyone uses the lot, its a lot safer then pulling out onto Navasink Ave, you get a little warm-up mtbing the rd over verses climbing the trails right out of buttermilk.
Don't tell too many people about this secret, this is vip parking only.
Well I parked and headed over to the trail head at buttermilk and made my way up the climb to the right. I passed a friendly chap at the bottom of the climb who stayed on my wheel for about a half mile. I wasn't drilling it but figured whoever was hanging with me has some skills. We started talking and I come to find out its Mare's boy friend Marc... aka MarcLewis. I did a member search and just realized there right next to each in the member directory, how cute.
Marc doesn't post up much but I found him very fun to ride with, in fact delightful. He's got this great voice to listen too, I think he is Australian. We would be bombing downhill on a trail and come across some hikers who seemed startled by us and Marc would say good morning in his great voice and they would just smile and wave. You can't get pissed at a guy with great voice.
We rode for 2hrs and then he had to split. I've been to Hartshorne too many times, having someone like Marc to ride with takes the boredom out of places that are too familiar. After he left I put in another hour at Huber and called it a day.
Another discover on this ride was that my Garmin 500 is not accurate when recording miles and speed in the woods. The signal gets lost and as a result the miles and avg. speed get screwed up. Marc had a speed sensor which is a lot more accurate. I put in like 28 miles at Hart & Huber yesterday.
McDudeman Marc
McIggy Man...I heart Rita's
After mtbing I got home around 1:15. I had toyed with the idea of going to Morristown to cheer on some teammates at the cross race but I bagged it. There were too many chores to do around the house plus I didn't feel like driving another 40+ miles round trip after already driving 60 miles.
Sunday
Woke up early and did a short road ride just to stay loose. I didn't have time for much more because we had to leave for J's soccer game in Allentown Pa. We hit the road and made good time on 78, got there in like 75 minutes. While J was warming up with his team me and Mary hit up the best of Lehigh Valley...Wegmans. We need one of these in Cranford, they have good shit there.
Wegmans is great. Where else can you get good beer, quinoa, chocolate organic granola and stinger waffles all under one roof.
I am no health nut but I don't eat fast food, except for pizza...but I don't consider that junk. Mary is more into whole foods then I am but as I get older I like knowing my food is pure...like my thoughts.
🙄
Speaking of pure...what about these kids? I found this on Shmev's camera, looks like a Friday night hanging out kinda thing. I like this shot Shmev took, I'm not happy about the basement party pics after this took place. Shmev is doing a lot better in school this year, A's & B's, and he is helpful around the house but I wish he was a nerd who stayed in and read books on the weekend. Oh well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The kids are alright...I think.
