IGVENTURE

The difference in moving time to elapsed??? Is that the accumulation of stop signs and stop light or was there a break in there???

there were lots of breaks/photo ops. all the down trees also contributed to breaks. sometime its good to take it all in during a ride, this was one of those times.

Power Returns

Yes my power is back but my internet connection is not working, I'm still using a jacked connection. At least I have lights and I'm not tripping over extension cords. It was kinda fun without power, every night we watched the Office. I think we have every season. The show sucks now that Michael Scott left, I wonder how him and Holly are doing. I miss them.

Training

After my century on Monday I had 8 hrs in for the week, counting Sundays xc ski session. Tuesday I took off from riding and Wednesday I went to Hartshorne. It always feels good to get out midweek on the mtb, especially when its 60 degrees in November. I must admit I am feeling a bit fatigued from xc skiing and riding my bike 100 miles. When ever I'm feeling tired I think I have lymes disease, guys at work were bit my ticks recently...if I stay away from them I should be ok.

Seasons in the Abyss

Thats what the grunge thread has turned into. I don't think anyone is saying that Slayer isn't talented/legends/icons...its just god dam, metal heads always have this attitude like these bands are way better than any music ever made because its technically superior. suck it.

Its arguments like these that reminds me of when me and my brother were 15 and would argue about who had the hotter girlfriend. Its just pointless.

I'm not sure if this music is technically superior, I just know that it sounds good. Not Slayer.

I'm with you. The metal guys suffer small penis syndrome or something. Why can't they just let people enjoy what they enjoy? I just don't get that.

It's kinda like the 29er thing.

If i saw one of you riding around on a huffy with a banana seat id let you know that your taste in bikes suck too ;-)

You see with Slayer it is more than just playing fast, it's the songwriting quality. Haven't you listened to Ethyl Merman sings the mega hits of Slayer?

Are we at war with Russia again too? Damn it's so hard to keep track of all these wars we're in now.

I'm digging this. If anything else zola jesus is a great name.

Yesterday
J had 2 soccer games in Allentown NJ. Its tough to remain neutral and mild mannered at a soccer game. This dude from the other team who was standing next to me didn't like an off sides call. He was being a dick. I turned to him and told him the player was off sides my 3'. He told me I didn't know what off sides was. Its time like these I need the writers from Family Guy standing next to me to give me a witty come back to put this guy in his place. I wish i could do that Stewie voice, that would be so awesome.

Today

I had an awesome time today mtbing with teammates and friends. I'm not going to give you any details because my teammate is preparing a write about it here.

Today was supposed to be the start of a rest week. I rode for 3hrs but this ride felt so good, and I have been feeling good...so its all good. With all the time I spend on a bike the magic times of getting together with others is always the best rides. Who cares if you clear technical stuff by yourself, or if you stumble and fall... if no one is there to laugh at you or applaud you its just not the same. Today was a fun day, check back into the blogspot for details of the events.

I know everyone likes photos so here are a few that I enjoy as well. These were taken by a HS classmate. I usually check out what she posts on FB, its usually interesting.

67 Degrees of 6-Mile

Today was a day off but it wasn't an off day, it was really enjoyable. After sleeping in I took a leisurely stroll to 6-mile. This ride can be aggravating during peak travel times but at 9:30 am its a breeze. On such a beautiful day even the parkway seemed tranquil.

During the car ride there Paul Simon's Kodachrome was playing on the radio, which is always a happy song. They followed that up with Cream's Sunshine of Your Love. Every time I hear this song I get the mental image from Goodfellas when they find those guys in the dumpster. That movie kinda ruined that song for me...you with me on this?

Any day in November you don't need warmers or vest is a great day to be out, the sun felt so good. I started on the 27 side with no plan other than to enjoy the loop. Not even 10 minutes in my back wheel came out of the drop outs. This problem has plagued me on my ss since I've had it, and I've about had it with this problem. I put the wheel back on and continue to enjoy the ride.

I wind through the twisty's, pass a road than more twisty's and before I know it I'm over by the canal. At the lot on the other side I see an Auto Haas Jersey in the parking lot. It doesn't look like Jeff, the only guy I really know on that team so I keep pedaling. Besides I don't think Jeff would be able to hang with me, he's soft. Maybe sandbagger would be a better insult??

J has done some fun things with these trails. 6 mile is the flattest, least technical place I know but somehow its still adds up to fun. I came up to these like table top things, I'm not really sure what your supposed to do on them so I just pedal up. I guess if I went fast enough I could get air and do tricks on the top but I just settle for the conservative up and down approach.

As I was taking photos and generally staring off into space I saw that Auto Haas dude pedaling up to me. As he gets closer I recognize him...hey your that dude that got 3rd in the Bagels an Bacon race. Why yes I am, my name is Daniel Stewart. We hung out a bit, soaked in the sun and talked about how great mtbing is.

Dan led the way back to the 27 lot. We chatted the whole time as we enjoyed some twisty goodness. We got back to the lot pretty quick an I said later dude, see you at Cathedral Pines. I'm glad I ran into Dan on the trails, it was fun to share the ride with someone, even if it was for a short time.

After the ride I drove over to Halters and cried to Chris about my wheel coming off. He said I need a through bolt hub on my vertical slider SS. I've heard someone tell me this before, but coming from Chris it just sounded more convincing. He's got one of those faces that you trust, he'd be a great car salesman. Needless to say I left my bike there for them to fix my problem.

After the mega-fun I came home and busted out a huge leaf pile in front of my house. I didn't think I had that many leaves until I started raking them, my leaf pile is rather impressive. I'd say i have the biggest one on the block.

Damn, this was when I was at Allaire. I knew I should have gone to 6 Miles.

Anyway, a beautiful day to be out. Tomorrow looks good too. Ima take the motorbike out early then hopefully take the cross bike for a spin before I have to pick up the shortys.

The Job

311738_2600305336758_1528536207_2758332_5776770_n.jpg

Its project time again, which means building stuff. This is the fun part of my job, managing people is not as rewarding. You would think working on a golf course and telling people to cut grass and blow leaves would be pretty simple. It is really, but it alway amazes me how difficult some folks can make a job. The problems usually start when employee A sees what employee B is doing, this is all it takes. Why are people always so consumed with what others are doing, I say do the best you can and don't worry about what employee B is up to...its so simple. But I guess if it where this simple I wouldn't have a job, so In a way I need these complicated people.

I don't need complicated people when I'm on a Dozer. The beauty of project work is people leave me alone. I find it very relaxing to shape and grade soil into a feature on the golf course. The above pic is a 1/2 acre driving range tee with a 1% grade. Setting up the grade stakes takes some time but with our laser beacon I can do this solo with exact precision. There is like a million uses for lasers, there is laser Zepplin , laser Floyd...laser lil Wayne?

So I can build this stuff and the bosses leave me alone and they are happy with the job. Basically I'm the only one who knows how to shape golf course features with a dozer in the Park System. So even if I'm a crappy shaper they wouldn't know it. This is kinda true, I can fool the Park System but i can't fool the golf architect when he comes to look at my work. He draws up the plan and I follow it.

The sub-grade is done, I gotta wait for the architect to give it his blessing then we install the irrigation around the tee and put back the topsoil. I used to do this stuff for a contractor but the schedule was too hectic, maybe crazy is a better word. Like most people I'm down for an 8 hr. workday but after that get me the fuck out. I gots to do my thing yo, the job will be there for me tomorrow morning. I'll let you know what the architect says, hopefully by next week.

Just out of curiosity, did you have to go to school and get a degree for your job? Landscape architecture?

To get the job in the park system I had to have a degree. Most golf courses now require a college education. My degree is in Agricultural Science, after I graduated Rutgers developed a turf program.

Landscape architecture is kinda of a waste on a golf course, but hey its a BS. I learned more working 2yrs. with a contractor building golf courses. I also got into more fist fights with fellow employees, it was definitely the school of hard knocks.

And there is always Carl, guys like him really exist.

The weekend

My rest week is coming to an end, well one more day. I'll pick it back up again Sunday. I want to go into CP feeling fresh but not stale, so I took a rest week and will throw down some hard efforts up until Tuesday then start to reel it in for the taper.

This was a week with no road bike, I mtb'd Ringwood/Ramapo Sunday, Monday and today I did 6-mile. It felt good to take a break from the road, especially with the wind. Even in the woods at 6 mile I could feel the wind today. Conditions were perfect a 6 mile, just tacky enough to gain traction in the turns. This will probably be the last rides at 6 mile for this year, its fun to mtb but it seems that I always hit traffic going there. I'd rather spend the time in the car driving and not bumpering...I just invented a word.

My saga of my SS blues continues. I'm having problems with my slider drop-outs. J at Halters was a big help with diagnosing the problem, hopefully I can get this straightened out by the race next weekend, if you see me beating my bike on the trail on Saturday it will mean that the problem didn't get fixed. I am contemplating switching to geared class...if I can.

Today felt cold, only because its been warm the last week. I don't mind the cold as long as we have snow to play in. I just placed an order for skate xc skis. These are basically racing skis so that means they cost more money, and you need the skate boots, bindings and poles to go with it. My justification for this is that even if we don't get snow here I can go to Minnewaska NY where they should have snow and skate ski on the groomed trails there. I am a firm believer in getting off the bike and mixing the training up in winter for physical and mental health. If this doesn't work out maybe I challenge Bills wife to some kick boxing.
Doing the powder salsa.

Malcom McLaren

Malcolm Robert Andrew McLaren (22 January 1946 – 8 April 2010)[2] was an English[3][4] performer, impresario, self-publicist and manager of the Sex Pistols and the New York Dolls.[5] As a solo artist, McLaren had an innovative career which helped introduce hip hop to the United Kingdom.

I copied that right out of wiki, I admit it. I discovered him from this song back in the 80's. Like any music that peaks my interest my 1st reaction is always wtf is this shit. This song brings back memories of driving to hs and ice skating at Warinaco Park were they'd have this song cranked.

The Sex Pistols was not really my thing but I respect punk and people who can shake the music industry. su ck i t.
