67 Degrees of 6-Mile
Today was a day off but it wasn't an off day, it was really enjoyable. After sleeping in I took a leisurely stroll to 6-mile. This ride can be aggravating during peak travel times but at 9:30 am its a breeze. On such a beautiful day even the parkway seemed tranquil.
During the car ride there Paul Simon's Kodachrome was playing on the radio, which is always a happy song. They followed that up with Cream's Sunshine of Your Love. Every time I hear this song I get the mental image from Goodfellas when they find those guys in the dumpster. That movie kinda ruined that song for me...you with me on this?
Any day in November you don't need warmers or vest is a great day to be out, the sun felt so good. I started on the 27 side with no plan other than to enjoy the loop. Not even 10 minutes in my back wheel came out of the drop outs. This problem has plagued me on my ss since I've had it, and I've about had it with this problem. I put the wheel back on and continue to enjoy the ride.
I wind through the twisty's, pass a road than more twisty's and before I know it I'm over by the canal. At the lot on the other side I see an Auto Haas Jersey in the parking lot. It doesn't look like Jeff, the only guy I really know on that team so I keep pedaling. Besides I don't think Jeff would be able to hang with me, he's soft. Maybe sandbagger would be a better insult??
J has done some fun things with these trails. 6 mile is the flattest, least technical place I know but somehow its still adds up to fun. I came up to these like table top things, I'm not really sure what your supposed to do on them so I just pedal up. I guess if I went fast enough I could get air and do tricks on the top but I just settle for the conservative up and down approach.
As I was taking photos and generally staring off into space I saw that Auto Haas dude pedaling up to me. As he gets closer I recognize him...hey your that dude that got 3rd in the Bagels an Bacon race.
Why yes I am, my name is Daniel Stewart. We hung out a bit, soaked in the sun and talked about how great mtbing is.
Dan led the way back to the 27 lot. We chatted the whole time as we enjoyed some twisty goodness. We got back to the lot pretty quick an I said later dude, see you at Cathedral Pines. I'm glad I ran into Dan on the trails, it was fun to share the ride with someone, even if it was for a short time.
After the ride I drove over to Halters and cried to Chris about my wheel coming off. He said I need a through bolt hub on my vertical slider SS. I've heard someone tell me this before, but coming from Chris it just sounded more convincing. He's got one of those faces that you trust, he'd be a great car salesman. Needless to say I left my bike there for them to fix my problem.
After the mega-fun I came home and busted out a huge leaf pile in front of my house. I didn't think I had that many leaves until I started raking them, my leaf pile is rather impressive. I'd say i have the biggest one on the block.
