IGVENTURE

Saturday I had the early shift at work, back to being the golf course manager. Not really much to do on weekends at this point in the season, but enough work to keep 6 guys busy for 4hrs. Mostly blowing and mulching leaves, its harvest time.

J came into work with me. He had soccer down in Hammonton at 1:00 and there ain't no way I'm driving home 40 miles north after work to turn around and drive 100 miles south. We left work by 10:00 and took a leisurely drive down 537 to 206 south. We stopped off at a dinner and had two fatboy specials, basically that's all they serve down in those parts.

Ended up losing the first game and tying the second, got home at 6:45pm... meh

Sunday Same early shift deal at work but this time I brought the road bike. As I was watching J's soccer game yesterday I came up with the plan to do a century tomorrow. It was the end of my rest week and had wanted to get in 3 century rides before CP. So today was the day. Did the work thing then got on the road by 9:30. The first 10 minutes is always tough mentally knowing your doing 100 miles but once you settle into a pace the miles tic away. It was easy to get into a rhythm with a tail wind, I was riding a tempo pace fairly easy.

At the start of Cranbury Neck Rd. heading towards Princeton I spotted Ilya's white suburban, kinda hard to miss with the vin diesel on the back. His wife Inna was driving him to his cx race, where she would take photos of him and be his pit crew. Damn, love knows no boundaries... yeah I'm jealous.

For me the century gets fun after Princeton heading towards sourlands. These are roads I only hit when doing the 100 miler, so they are not as familiar and that is more exciting. I climb the back of Zion rd then make my way down the other side of the mountain. Once I hit Amwell rd I'm on the back stretch. Amwell rd has a nice tail wind but damn thats a long road to before I get Canal road, it seems to go on forever.

From Canal rd on I suffer with the head winds, I was really getting beat up by the wind. Its not like an acute blow but more like a steady attack that just drains you as the time goes on. After 80 miles I had to exhale like a tennis player on his serve in order to stay pumped and focused. I wanted to finish strong and this wind was really testing my willpower.

With a mile to go I hit the garmin to see what my avg speed was, 18.8. I wanted it to be faster but with the winds I was working very hard. My avg. moving speed was 18.9, I'm still not sure what this means. I definitely worked harder on this one with my avg. HR at 146 compared to 142 when I did this ride back in August.

Needless to say I was wiped out after this ride. 3hrs rides are easy compared to 5.5 hr rides at tempo. The rest of the week is going to be easy for me as I get ready for CP. I will be ready Saturday, I just hope my bike is.

Good work Iggs... Three 100 milers before CP:scared:... Reading that it comes off to me as if its just another ride for you... I got in three 80 milers with the last one being yesterday and hawt damn the wind was something wicked... Neptune's Veterans Park is literally next door to my house and I always use the flag see how the wind is blowing... Yesterday I knew I was in trouble the last 10 miles based on my route... I truly prefer a steep climb over a consistent head wind

Oh I have to note this: Nice elapsed time to moving time on that ride

hmm,.did i smell numero uno??
i sure did...😀

There are some heavy hitters in ss open...Ross Anderson who dominated the H2H series and Get the hell our of my way Kraxberger, I'll be happy with a top 5.

Nice work man.. thats awesome!

Btw, what course are you at?

I'm supposed to be at Charleston Springs but have been all over the place this year doing projects. Currently I'm working at Howell GC on a Driving Range tee. I like building stuff.

Today

I took off from work today to sleep in, ride my bike and do some chores. Saturday is CP so I want to be rested this week, sleeping in until 8 took care of this. Looking at the weather forecast while eating my coco puffs I saw that rain was going to be moving in. I threw the ss on the car and headed to Lewis Morris. With a late start I sat in traffic on rt. 24 for 45 minutes, it took me a little over an hour to drive 20 miles. Where are all these people going at 9:15 in the morning?? shouldn't they already be at work...wtf. Slackers!

This was the first time this year I've been to Lewmo. I did 2 laps of the race course going clockwise followed by some cool down across the road. My pace was tempo-ish although some of those punchy climbs can drive your hr up. That is a fun course for sure but the wet leaves made me take it easy on the downhills.

On the way home I stopped at Marty's in Morristown. That place has the best mtb tire selection. All the hot tires in stock, Ignitors, Geax AKA, WTB Weirwolf, plus more. I grabbed an Ignitor to replace the front tire on the SS.

Basically I could goof off as much as I wanted today as long as I replaced the toilet seat my wife has been bugging me about for the last 2 months. After lunch I stopped at Toilets R Us for a new seat. Someone needs to rethink how these damn things are attached. Metal screws near urine and caustic cleaners is not a good idea. I spent 5 minutes trying to get these stupid nuts off then grabbed the sawzall.

I'll bring the new tire into work tomorrow and set it up with the air compressor. I still have the issue with the back wheel coming off but it wasn't an issue today. I am waiting to hear back from Trek/Fisher but in the mean time HG put a steel skewer in that held up today while at LewMo. The steel seems to have more grab. The problem is the way the wheel sits in the drop-out with the skewer. There doesn't seem to be enough tolerance with the frame above the skewer and as a result the skewer doesn't sit in there perfectly. The steel is better then the aluminum skewer which loosened much easier. I am going to think positive thoughts for CP with this, at this point I don't have another option.

Tune In

Today was a good day for music, I like cranking the stereo when no one is home and the rain just adds to the introspective mood. I really like this song as well as the video. Interesting camera angles, tight editing, cool lighting and like amateur porn, its real.

Chris you really going to put a new tire on right before the race? Don't you know the rules about that. This might be my chance to move up a spot!! See you Sat.

Can you grind a small flat spot into the knob of the skewer so it sits better? Its hard to tell how deep you would need to go and whether it would make a difference, but I imagine you could shave a millimeter or two off the knob without really weakening it. Loop a heavy duty zip tie around it and through the frame, that should help keep the wheel from falling out if the skewer doesn't loosen.

Maybe a bolt on skewer would work better for you. That QR with the nut holding the lever on doesn't seem to be doing you any favors. And is that adjuster screw below the brake adapter bent?

The Drop-Out Dilemma

I am reluctant to do any rigging of my Rig, grinding down skewers is to riggy. Also I think I would need a different hub to do a thru-bolt deal. Currently the steel skewer feels more solid, I was able to literally shake the wheel out of the dropouts with the aluminum skewer before by grabbing the tire and shaking it side to side. At this point I am going to believe that the steel will work for CP...positive reinforcement.

I have been reading the Fisher forum on mtbr and I did see someone posting the same problem with there Rig. The guy got like 3 frames and kept having the same issue, wheel coming off. Snikes I hope its not going to take that much nonsense to get my deal straightened out. The 2012 Rig's still have the drop-out's but rumor has it it's a better design. Its times like these that I can appreciate the simplicity and durability of Paragon Sliders.

Take er Easy Day

No riding today, just getting more ducks in a row for Saturday. I'm set for Gu but had to get some Cliff bars. I found out today that Gu stepped up to sponsor our team next year, I think this basically means I'll be brushing my teeth with gu (strawberry banana). I mounted my tire at work today with the air compressor. The mechanic was standing next to me telling me its not going to work as Stan's was getting all over the friggin place. I told Pete you have to think positive thoughts when mounting a tire. He was really sucking the energy out of the shop with his negativity. After I cleaned the old stans out of the valve insert the tire popped on the bead. The guys had a good laugh when I told them how much I paid for the tire. Between my riding outfits and gear I supply the shop with a lot of humor...they need me.

Guys who don't ride seriously have no idea what this stuff costs. There are a few guys at work who legitimately believe I own a $14,000 mountain bike. Like the game of telephone, each time the real amount was told to the next guy, it increased by a grand. Now I just say, "it's just another car payment...what's the big deal?"

I didn't have time to read all of the issues but ill offer you my cannondale ss if you need it

Thanks for the offer (Utah/Pugsley/Segundo), at this point I think/hope the steel skewer will work. If it doesn't I'll be re-mounting a wheel as often as Dustin on a busy day at the auto chop.

Everything is ready to go for tomorrow, well almost. I just have to fill the camelbak and load the car, so I'm like 95% ready. I feel good. So far this week I have 8hrs under my belt, which included today's light spinning for 30 minutes. When you do a 5.5hr ride early in the week its easy to rack up bike hours without even trying.

Mary just left with J for a soccer tournament in Hershey Pa. He had the same tournament last year at this time. I was at CP and missed it but one of us had to stay home with Shmev, so this worked out. While I'm racing tomorrow Shmev will be doing 6hrs of raking/blowing leaves. I hope he has been training.

Here is the latest release from some chicks, these gals are sassy. Growing up in the 80's its hard not to compare girls bands to the go-go's. Our lips are sealed is a great song...although it doesn't really work when a guy sings it.
