Friday, Nov.5th--2 park loop

it is raining here in ny, so i called a no. took my kid to school and am packing for a work-trip now. booo. hope you all have fun!

Me, Dave and Robin. The 1st bummer was riding through Tilcon Lake. The tractors have just begun to ruin what was my favorite part of the ride. BIG BUMMER. Up in Stephens, I came close to running smack into a huge bear. Thank God I looked up when i did, because he was sitting in the trail w his back to us. He was a beaut, though. Then there were cold toes and flat tires, etc, but the real bummer was that Dave took a jump and crash landed hard. Thankfully it was at the road and Matt was able to come quick and bring him to the ER. Broken clavicle and possibly ribs... Going to get his car now and will keep in touch.

Ouch. sorry to hear this.

Damn, that sucks. On what section of trail did it happen?

Dave - ironically, I sent you a PM about riding Sunday.

Hope you heal up fast.

It was crazy-- we were leaving the pink getting onto the road by the train tracks. Dave jumped the dirt pile, twisting somehow midair and just slammed his body hard. I was ahead but heard it...He called and said he was in the ambulance going to Morristown. They're treating him as critical. He broke7- 8 ribs along w collarbone. He said they were concerned about his aorta and lung.Needless to say his wife is not happy...

That's terrible.
Hope he's well and riding again soon.

Dave was in really bad shape when I was in the ER with him. I can only hope for a speedy recovery for him. He is gonna need lots of prayers folks, it's sad to see a fallen mate and then to see his 3 young girls so very worried about their daddy.

Oh shit this was dmc123? Man, that totally sucks. Sorry to hear that Dave. Heal up quickly man. Wishing you the best.

I still can't believe what happened - I only heard it and when I got to Dave, he was gasping for air, gathering himself after falling. I initially thought he got the wind knocked out of him - it wasn't until Patty mentioned his collarbone that I realized it was bad.

Thankful that Matt was nearby to get him. Patty called me later to tell me the status and I keep thinking about Dave and his family.

Please keep us posted.

Whoa! Frightning! ....That's so crazy that you folks tear up both those parks and he gets caught up on that little dirt mound.... Lucky for him to be with some really good people to help him.
I wish you a speedy recovery sir.

Whoa! I believe this is the same gentleman that I bailed with at the Bfat Tour at Mahlon last weekend. We took the fireroad back from the preserve. Black Ellesworth?

On a different note, what are they doing with tractors near Tilcon Lake? I've been there twice (riding Stephens, and fishing w/ my brother) seems like a really nice and quiet lake.

To start, they put down gravel on the dirt trail where we go in.(for a road?) Then they pushed huge pieces of the brush aside. Looks like they are making room for buildings, but who knows. It's ugly. And the mud was so soft we couldn't ride through it. So sad it couldn't have just been left alone. If anyone knows what they're doing, let us know...

I tried digging around and the only thing I can come up with is the Musconetcong River Kayaking Trail

Not sure they would be breaking ground immediately after the $$ was awarded, but who knows. And I'm thinking it would cost more than $8500 for what you're describing.

hmmm...I don't think this would be for the trail building based on the damage/clearing that was done - but who knows. Its just a mess though - I suggest that anyone who usually takes the route around the lake find an alternate route - wet, muddy feet that early in the ride is NOT fun. 😡
