Darkhorse gallop!

Since I have been racing for less than a year, I was just wondering if at any point, would a race be canceled due to the trails being too muddy? Not that I mind the mud. Tymor this year was like dry pavement compared to your average MX race at englishtown.

In my few years, I've never seen it. Last year at the Root66 Putney Race, it was pouring rain and lightening, and we rode on!

I have only heard of one race in my life that was terminated early due to extreme lightning.

A race at Deer Park was cancelled the day before. The concern was that the road into the place would not hold up to the traffic of racers driving in.

A race at Kittatinny SP was shortened by one lap (for Experts) due to heavy rain leading up to and during the event.

These were around 2002-2003. I can't remember.

The promoter and the land manager have the call. Every situation is different.

I would have to imagine this amount of rain will make them consider shutting the race down. But in the end I don't think they will. Where I am, we must have gotten an inch of rain in the last few hours. It's been pouring here for a while. Apparently it rained all night as well.

Over the next 3 days Rock Tavern, NY which I believe is close to Stewart is set to receive 1.26" of rain. Current Forecast for Sunday:

High: 74°F RealFeel®: 75°F

How bad does Stewart get in the rain? I have only been there once and that was for the DH40 last year. Dry as it could get to. It was fast.

I would think they would consider a reroute of a couple of places that seems to already be in really bad shape. There are enough trails there that they could probably do that.

VERY unlikely!!! The promoter has put too much into the event to just bail. Everything has to be organized and paid for in advance. Race day is when they collect on all the invested time and money. No way they just bail on that. Even a crappy turnout will reimburse them for their expenses. A good day pays for more stuff in the future.

Huge effort goes into choosing a route. The promoter tries to create a route that is entertaining and highlights the best of what the park has to offer. Easy enough for Beginners. Challenging enough for Experts/Pros. That is not easy to do. Once decided, I suspect it is pretty firm. Although, there are a couple of places that have such a large trail network and history of race courses that they can just switch things around. Kitattinny and Ringwood come to mind. There have been so many races there by the same promoters that they could switch stuff around in a heartbeat.

Trail damage can be addressed at a later date. Adjustments and changes can be applied to the next race. Maybe, take a slap on the wrist from the park officials but get paid. :getsome:

The course was chosen to avoid wet areas to begin with. I believe they were originally going to do some form of the SS course but then things started to get wet weeks ago, so they changed up and went with a more traditional course. So they've already done the best they could in this regard.

Reroute could be the thing (but by no means an easy solution). Major Mike was the only really (really!) bad spot. Unfortunately the forecast for the next couple of days is bleak and could drop a couple of more inches of rain......🙁

What does the $10 dollar cash preem mean. I've never done this race before so I have no idea. Is this for everyone or only the first guy up the hill?

we are on!!!

were on folks! come on out and get dirty!! mike rowe might even show up!!
i mean really? what is this a beauty pageant board? its freakin mountain biking! they make mud tires for a reason!! go support your local shop and buy up a set!!

in all seriousness we are working on a major mike adjustment. we are fixing some of the trouble spots and dealing with what we can. we take trail conditions and rider safety very seriously. course will be what it will be.
