Darkhorse gallop!

just preroad the course. prolog plus 2 laps. the place kills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes we did ride the marked race course yestereday and Stewart kills all right ...
The heavy mid June rains have turned Stewart into a swamp. The climb on Major Mike was a stream, the downhill was a horrible mess. Huge pond like puddles are everywhere, what was once fast and flowy is now slip, slide and splash. I have never got that muddy. If we don't get more rain the course should be OK with just a few small puddles, more rain and its going to a mess.
Ona brighter note I did get to meet Mike Montalbano while riding  and shortly after Roger Foco met him there. I was kinda tired after swimming, whoops! ...I mean riding 2 laps or I would have showed Mike and Roger a few of my secret lines 😛

R to the C ... :lock:

Wow these last 2 posts are quite contrary, I would think this place drains well, why? I don't know.
Hopefully yesterday and what looks like dry today will help a lot for the weekend but we don't want to talk about the forecast.

It's my fault, I decided to rest the baloney skins when it was still nice out a couple of weeks ago...

More reason to run the ss bike

If it weren't for the prologue I think I would run the SS. But with it in there it's really the difference between entering the ST close to first versus close to last. I like challenges but I think that may be a bit tall for me.

well, with 2 + inches of rain expected between now and the race...plan on getting muddy...

ive been riding in the mud for the past month.

I would be out of my element on dry tacky trails..

Mud-D

Just did a few laps on the course. Everything "low" is pretty good, just some big puddles to splash through. The top (major mike?) is a total mudfest. The trail is getting hammered, and if we get more rain that part of the course is going to get crushed. Bring your swimmies kids. I've got to go clean my bike...... I should have all the mud off by race-day😀

Not Good

The latest Orange/Ulster counties weather for tonight (06-17) is rain, tomorrow is rain, heavy at times with a 1 1/2 inch of rain expected. I think the course will be a total mess, thats a shame b/c Stewart is one of the best areas to ride and George, Mike and the Darkhorse crew are the best. This will be my 5th mud race ina row. 😡

RC ... 😡

Dude with all the riding you've been doing I'm seeing top 3 for you! I'm still just hoping to not DFL. You been able to talk Wally into racing yet? Between you Joe and Him I could see an MTBNJ.com podium 😀

Well, I'm honored😱 I have been going back and forth if the race thing is for me, and with all the water heading this way I think I'm gonna sit this one out and think about it some more.

+1 on this.
Just got back and the first trail hit (Major Mike?) is a total quagmire; I can't imagine what it'll be like with 3 more days of rain. Once you get past that though there's only isolated sections of muck. It's a shame because under drier conditions, Stewart is one of the fastest and funnest places around.
Good to ride a bit with guava and to finally meet Pokgirl.

Who is guava? Been trying to meet this guava... and little did I know he was with you!
Great to meet you! It was quite the social scene in the parking lot this evening. Guess everyone came out for the last dry day to preride!

guava's the Cat 1 guy with the carbon Racer X who left my little group of Cat 2's & 3's in the dust, er, that is if there were any dust 😉, right after Major Mike. He was there looping around in the lot when we all were de-mudifying. 🙂

Mudslides are good.......

Road with the Beacon Bombers tonight. We did two laps of the mudslide. Was not that bad, but I am sure it is going to get a lot worse. With the full group of 18 we did 1 Lap in 1hr 20min, not bad with that many people. First lap with fewer people we did it in 45min. Just spent 20min cleaning mud off my shoes, bike and cloths, wife would not let me but them in washer until after I cleaned them...I am sure I will still do the race, whats a little mud in your eye anyways..........
