Conditions?

The best part was coming back through the orange twisties at dusk. Those lower light condition makes them even more fun but it does slow you down a bit with the limited sight distance.🙂

i am usually an early morning rider, and I always find it interesting when I ride at different times of the day how the shadows change the way the trail looks.

Got there on the cross bike yesterday, dry and dusty. Almost too dry. Good times.

Were you wearing an mtbnj jersey? I almost ran into someone wearing one on a cross bike near the old foundation, I was on my mamasita. If so, nice to almost collide with you 😀 I was too out of it to even mutter a "hello" or "sorry" my apologies.

Yup, that was me. No worries, plenty of room.

Walter how careful do you need to be there on the cross bike with regards to roots and logs etc?

I usually ride my rigid ss, but since I am in the market for a cross bike that could be a fun ride.

Brad, honestly its the only bike I have been riding there. There are the few big roots as you leave the lot and head to the power lines that I lift the front wheel for, but once you hit the twisties its a friggin blast. Obviously with the smaller volume tires you dont want to hit anything too big with a full head of steam, just use common sense, pick some better lines and all is good.

I unclip at the concrete bridge and thats about it. I go right after the Middlebush crossing lately, and once you hit the fields its wfo. I guess it depends on the rider and how comfortable you are at taking an aggressive line on that kinda bike. Last summer or so, Ben was at Clayton on his cx bike and I was on my Salsa and he took a downhill just as fast as I did.

Plus, the benefit of the cross bike at a place like that is that you can hop on the road and add a ton of miles to the ride.

I took it to Allaire a few weeks ago and Dustin said he surprised how smooth I was on it.

Like I said i your thread, I sold my road bike, bought the cross bike and an inexpensive set of wheels and now have 2 bikes to ride with a simple wheel change.

I'm even cheaper than Walter; I have one road wheelset and swap tires every time I want to ride it in CX mode.

I rode every single section of six mile on the cross bike, and did just about all of the log overs. You can really ride anything on the cross bike, it just may not be as comfy or fun as riding the mountain bike.

I did not do the skinnys, but who does that shit anyway.

That reminds me, I need to CX with Wally one day.

Interesting, thanks Walter and Pearl. I was also thinking about Clayton and Allaire with the cx bike. I have been using the rigid ss and am careful to
pull up on the roots/logs, especially after my buddy tacoed the front tire on a a log at 6 mile.

I don't want to end up hijacking this thread, so conditions today at 6 mile: dry and dusty. I am still looking for my crank bolt, but no luck so far.

Hey- I'm hoping to make it down there early tomorrow,
but will stay away if it's wet-
How's it looking down there?
Looks from the radar like it's just passing through,
but local any intel is appreciated-
Thanks

Im about 5 miles from there and we just got hammered by a nasty little storm. I wanted to ride there tomorrow but it looks like sunday will be the better day. I havnt seen the trails in person but we probably got at least a half inch or more of rain.

Damn. Thanks for the info, unfortunately Sunday is out for me, it should be perfect then.

Yea, they are not gonna be good. I was halfway there after work and it started pouring. What a terrible way to start the weekend...

Got caught in it tonight. When I started out the conditions were perfect due to the rain that we go last night. On the way back it started to pour; lots of rain - stay away until Sunday.
