I am going to Utah at the end of February. Just bought airfare for $460 this week. I've been to Park City, Cannons, Snowbird and Alta. How does Power Mountain compare? I heard good things so I think we are going to try to get there. We are staying in Park City. Is it worth the drive?

I have had some super days at powder mt.

Is it worth it? Yeah.. If it snows.

Think old school, low tech. mega fun terrain and really nice people.

I would rather give my lift ticket money to these guys than to any other spot in UT.

Have a ball. I hope you get a ride in the school bus.

Check out Powder MT 😀 It's very fun and it's different then the Mega resorts.

Have Fun

I found this flight on expedia.com. This flight wasn't the cheapest by far but its non stop both ways and gets me in and out at the times I wanted. I found fares as low as $320 out of Philly on Fronteir but involved lay overs and a red eye.

We are definately going to check out Powder Mtn. Hopefully it's not too hard to get to if it snows a lot. We may even try a run in the back country with the snow cat.

In UT they have plows that clear feet of snow off the road better than they can clear inches here in NJ.

Avalanches are another story.

I once was at Brighton and a slide closed the road.

We had the hill to ourselves until about 1pm.

We went up on the 1st bus in the early am and I was very happy we did.

It's like 2.5 hours away in NY. I passed signs for it on my way to Vermont last year. From the website it looks like a pretty cool place.

Belleayre is a great place to go for cruisers. In my opinion Hunter or Platekill offer a much better challenge. But when the conditions are good at Belleayre it can be a ton of fun. They put in a high speed quad last year and the park was suprisingly fun last year too. Also not going to spit out any "local" beta, but there's some suprisingly good "backcountry" easily accessible next door that can be great on a powder day.

On Friday I rode for the first time on my Lib Skis with magnetraction. They are SICK. I've been telling all my snowboard friends to look into getting a Lib or Gnu board with it, for icecoast stuff like last week they hold an edge like non other. My girlfriend is picking up a Gnu B-Nice with it, next week, should be sweet and I'll give a report.

liber

I have been looking at Magnatraction since it first came out.

I have had a few Libs over the years but I always found them to be too soft.

I had my eye on a 66 Malolo or a 64 Supermodel x but now I am not sure after crusing this site.

Check out the vid clips on the site.

They are making a crazy reverse sidecut powder board that defies what we think we knwo about snow riding.

Mostly Ski but enjoy it all

I tend to ski, and tend to do it out west since moving down from NE...

I have an old Burton board.. I don't know what kind or the vintage, though it does have an Oakley Thermonucular Protection sticker on it, if that's any indication.

I used to ski Mt. Snow, Killington, Stratton, Okemo, Smuggler's Notch, Attitash, and Gunstock all the time, pushing up to Jay Peak for odd weekends... Now, I may go for 1 weekend per year up to VT. From here there is just a few hundered bucks difference between a trip to VT. and a trip to Utah or Colorado... for a few hundered bucks I've been choosing the west.

I recently purchased a mini-van, which could be pretty comfortable for the ride north and potentially to camp-out in.... This would make it a little more likely for me to make a trip on the east this year. New daughter and new mortgage payments may make it a little less likely, though.

I haven't been to the local bumps (windham, hunter, etc.)... I'm not sure I crave skiing/boarding quite enough to go there... I'm probably going to do more backcountry skiing this year instead (less $$, less crowds, more tranquility)... I'm curious about how the snowcover is going to work out this season...

The banana tech does seem sweet, but they are definitely borrowing it from the K2 Pontoon http://www.k2skis.com/skis/ski.asp?ProductID=11
(I believe they were the first to market with a reverse camber ski), last year at jackson that ski was everywhere. Throw in magnetraction with that technology though and you'd probably have yourself a killer big mtn board.

I've never ridden on any of lib's boards, but the skis seemed stiff enough for what I'll be doing with them (east coast park riding), doubt I'll be grabbing them on a powder day though.

My issue is that I get 10 days a year out west. I have some really good boards but none that work well in a variety of snow conditons.

I am after a board that can do it all.

10 days a year out west is more than enough to justify two boards 😉 😛

tele ski?

Any tele skiers? Get low & you will flow.
I think a ski trip is a good idea. I like Belleayre better than Hunter, nicer people at Belleayre. If people can take off work on a Friday Belleayre has $15 skier appreciation days on select Fridays.(Dec. 14, Jan. 18, Feb. 15, Mar. 14, April 11)
I plan on getting up there on above dates. Another promotion at Bell. is you ski free on your bday, a great way to spend the day!

First post? Welcome to the site!

I tele some, but mostly alpine. I have a pair of tele ski's I'm passively trying to sell if you're interested 😉 😛 http://www.mtbnj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3497
Every time I go to Belleayre I feel as if the tele population there has multiplied tenfold, it's turning into some scene there.

Really? My b'day is coming up. Crap that's the same day as the Berkshire Buzzards Bash. Maybe I can ride 50 miles and then go ski. Do they have night skiing?
