hip hip horay Justin!

Get a load of this... they canceled my 5k?!!! How the hell you cancel a 5k???? The reason was two events are scheduled for the park the same day. Seriously?

Thanks man. Crazy your race was canceled.

Started the more intense training this week first by not taking a day off after the race and the going right into fast 5 yesterday and 400m repeats today, which was brutal. Normally I take the day off after a track workout but I'm going to push it hard for the next 3 weeks for the Teterboro race, so another 5 tomorrow. I'll rest July 5th!

I'm currently following a modified version of this:

had you already registered?

Yea but I'm already was credit my reg fee. Race director handled it immediately and sent out email to all registered ppl.

Beautiful day out. Ran for 40min. Felt sluggish on the hills.
Then 2 set of various plyos. Feeling sore already 🙄

12-miler today, nice n easy. I was already sore as hell from walking around the Bronx Zoo for 4 hours yesterday with a child on my shoulders. Cross-training I call it.

8.5 miles at 6:58 pace. Felt great, which was needed since lately I've been thinking I've started to plateau. I should probably put in several weeks at my new weekly goal (40-45 miles per week) before I get down. No worries though, in the 8 months I've been running again I've already accomplished every goal I had: I've found solid fitness (and gasp! even a little fun) in running, I've run a marathon, and I've won a race. I'm looking forward to the Teterboro 5K where I hope to go under 18 minutes (not likely) and then take some time off. The next real goal will be to go under 3 hours in the NJ Marathon next year.

Ran again in the rain today. Really came down on me. Not fun.

I've got to be honest- I love running in the rain- well not if it's super cold out- but just in general- it's the best if you are already running and it cools you off!!

Sounds like you've had a great year- glad to hear it and I wish you luck in breaking 18 min next week!!

Spent the weekend on Cape Cod and had a great time. Ran twice along the bike path which went from Chatham to Harwich and was totally nice. Great place that Cape Cod.

6 miles today, fast. 6:11 pace. Didn't think I had it in me for a training session. Hell I didn't think I had that in me for a race. No reason I can't do much, much better in the Teterboro 5K July 18th. Figure I'll go out in 5:45 and take it from there. Woot!

Reading through this thread almost makes me want to start running again to revisit my glory days. But then again, I really enjoy the biking. Other than a random triathlon here and there, I haven't run more than 20 days a year since 2005 and haven't been in race fit, since probably 2003.

Mountain biking is more fun, both the actual exercise and the hanging out with friends. I'd still be biking if it worked better with my situation. I'm running again myself for the first time in ages and it's a wake-up call when you strap on a watch or GPS and find yourself going much much slower than you recall.

yeah i know... getting into run shape once you've lost it is no fun at all. My girlfriend is a runner, so I'll jump in a local 5K once in a while just because she's doing it. That's always a big mistake, because I have a real hard time with running easy in a race. I always end up pushing myself as hard as I can, then I can't walk for a few days and curse running for the next month. Its been a vicious cycle with me over the past few years.

Same here man. When I run along bike paths I often "race" any other runners and even some slower cyclists. Ran a 10K at 6:25 pace today (39:50) and felt pretty good about destroying everyone in my path 🙂 Pretty much the only time I get to say that 🙂

Impressive!! I'm not quite at the point where I could run 13 miles and then bike afterwards!!

Thanks, though biking with my 3-yr old isn't exactly training. 😀
My training is coming along....I keep getting sidetracked and mtn biking tho....I need to cut that back and run more but I don't want too!! lol
Biking's more fun, especially if you have folks to bike with. I miss biking a lot some days, but overall I can't complain.

I caught a stomach bug the past couple days and I'm not sure if I'm still doing the Teterboro 5K Saturday. Not like I have a chance to win or even place, but it's the fastest 5K around so I'm really interested in what my absolute fastest 5K pace could be. (5:45 pace?). We'll see.

I did a 5k on Tuesday at 7:50 pace. I was a little dissapointed it was the same time as the 5 miler I did in May. I wanted to run faster. The next time I will not do a vigourous ride the day before or run the 1.5 miles from my apt to the race. Two days before that I ran 5 miles and biked 36. I'm wondering if that had an effect. I'm curious to know what other peoples prerace workouts are and what and when they eat?
