RU Big Chill 5k

It was my first time running since spraining my ankle couple months ago. I gave it a short test run this week. There is just a slight nudge here and there. Not enough to not make me not run. Ran it at a lax pace. 8 and change minute miles with the girlfriend. Did not want to wake up and run in the cold. Probably didn't want to run either but don't regret it one bit. Got a sweet ass beer mug too. That's a change from the usual plastic coffee thermo.

I'd say that is the most congested 5k at the start. People line up at the wrong place. So this year we just lined with the 20min people even though we be running like 25. Worked out much better but there were still walkers in front of us. Crazy

Thinking about doing the RU half marathon in April. It's so close, why nots

Also as far as running shoes go. Get the book Born to run, by Christopher McDougall. Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? In search of an answer, Christopher McDougall sets off to find a tribe of the world’s greatest distance runners and learn their secrets, and in the process shows us that everything we thought we knew about running is wrong.

When I started running again with at weight 261 with nikes i was able to make it to six weeks with no injuries then all of a sudden shin splints. I read the book in my recovery time, and thought hard about it. I started running again training and racing in racing Flats only. I havent had a leg foot or knee problem since and its been three months now. Everyone is diffrent but Im now 229 and running 4-6 days a week with racing flats and injury free.
Less is better sometimes
Read the book

that's pretty extreme. no doubt people are over-cushioning themselves but i have to think you're going to develop some issues if you train in flat long-term. those college racers do it but are usually south of 130. i found the sweet spot in performance trainers, usually around 10oz. i like me some structure so outside of short races i don't wear the 7 oz flats too often.

I actually just started running in zoot tempos so little more than flats, but there are people running barefoot or in sandals going 25 plus miles daily with no such thing as knee, shin or foot problems, for years Its crazy.
