Rode some dirt today, or more accurately, some sand and pine needles. This was a small place called North Carolina Forest at UNC Chapel Hill. Felt like south jersey with slightly more elevation and a few rock gardens. Heading to the super flat deep south after this.
Wildcat Ridge was extra tough for me on day 26 of 31 of this 31/31 challenge. The view from the Hawk Watch was a bit hazy today with the reduced air quality.
The oppressive heat and mosquitos added another level of discomfort. So at the end of the ride in the afternoon heat, I stood near the bat cave for a good 5+ minutes enjoying the frosty air.
26. Had a small window to ride after work and wanted to just spin the legs out on the road bike and ride harder tomorrow, but the legs felt good and the group rode out of Cranford was passing by, so why not? Joined the A group and the pace was like a rollercoaster. Lots of stupid fast blow your heart up and then kinda pedaling squares. I was super impressed with the 27.4 avg on an undulating terrain from valley road to the circle. It definitely had me in the red, but I felt fine going on. I was kinda sad company was coming over for dinner and I needed to tend to the grill leading to a turn off from the group. I definitely couldn’t have held on prior to this challenge or even a week and a half ago. It’s amazing when fitness starts coming back.
Ona separate note came down to my Santa Cruz blur with water damage under the clear coat! I guess with the scratches I had in the clear coat, water got under it during the storm yesterday while it was on the car rack. Gonna need a repaint… but for now I guess a sticker will have to be okay.
Did another sunrise ride yesterday I order to keep on track for 21 days and still have wiggle room in case work messes me up this week or Monday.
It was pleasantly cool out but hazy and humid AF. I did a few efforts to get the HR up after a day off Tuesday but I think the volume of miles from last week still has me a bit fatigued.
The sun started coming up and burning through the clouds at various points of the ride so I kept taking pics. I did have one complete asshat driver pass me too close on a wide open road with no other traffic. Thank god for my garmin varia radar at least i new it was coming.
And these deer literally were frozen in place until I had to start braking and the turbo winding down sound of my carbon rim brakes made them run.
Day 26. Cell service sucks here, so posting from a high spot in Senoia camp, the bathroom. Rode all the well known trails of the other side of Allegrippis. One more ride this morning before we leave. Will update later.
