2013/2014 XC Ski Thread

yeah this last snow is crap. im hoping that the storm over the weekend delivers good snow and we can be back in business

The snow should improve as it compresses and gets tracked. My plan is to head over to Thompson Park after work, they groom.
I am taking off work tomorrow and heading to New Palt to skate ski Minniwaska if anyone wants to join me. This is a state run park that grooms, trail passses are cheap and there are reports of a lot of snow up there.

I went to my local football field last night and tramped out a loop. By the third lap it was skiing OK.

I think once this stuff gets packed down it will be nice.

Can I join you Iggy.

Fast as heck if y'all would man up and get trail skis with edges😀
Yeah, I have metal edges and they help when it is icy. Have you been out yet? It seems to be softening up.

Yeah Jimmy, join in. Ellen, let me know if you want a ride up. We can ski/skate at our own pace. Where is a good spot to meet up to carpool? Something on 287 before NY Thruway? Meet around 8:00am.

I just saw that they got 17 " and it's packed! It should be awesome tomorrow. Art may want to skip work too. I'll check back.

Kool , see you guys at 8:00😀

I got out today for about an hour at Thompson Park. Tracks were set and conditions were fast. Thompson Park is a good deal, they don't charge a trail pass and conditions are pretty good when other places are crap.

I'm looking forward to skate skiing Minnewaska tomorrow and teaching Jimmy how to ski and get laid...the pressure is on.

I went back to my self made loop around the local football field last night. While the track itself was fine even if a bit icy, the surrounding snow was hard as concrete. I made the mistake of bracing a fall with a fist instead of an open hand and bloodied up my knuckles.

Hopefully the parks will be well tracked out with some fresh when I get out there Sat afternoon.

I met Jimmy this morning and we cruised up to New Paltz to ski Minnewaska. Snow was groomed and near perfect. This was Jimmy's first time out on xc skis and he did really well. He did the full loop out to Castle point. The funny thing is that he was slower on the downhills. I think his legs were spent by the time he got to the downhill toward the end of the loop.

I did a couple loops and went around the lake. The snow was a little soft for climbing but the downhills were awesome. You could bomb down and still be able to bite into some snow to turn at the bottom. I think this is the most mileage I've put in to date? Also I saw Art an Ellen on the Castle Point loop, me and Jimmy got a late start so they drove up earlier. It was cool to see bike riders on skis.😀
