12 Hours of 909's Lack of available info

I'm signed up for the 12HRS of 909 next weekend and have been all over the net looking for info on the race. Am I missing something? Would appreciate any info on the camping situation, what time registration is, etc.. Thanks!

It'll be next Tuesday before Tim gets in touch with you.
From what I recall about 909, there isn't any place to camp in the area. Almost like Wildcat Ridge, just pull up, park your car and ride.

I haven't registered yet, but I'm getting geared up for a long day. Probably leaving around 4:30am getting home around 11pm. Good group of guys up there.

thanks. i was planning on camping but if no camping is the case, I guess a very long day it will be for me aswell 🙂

Im pretty sure there is camping allowed in 909. We were there last yr doing the 12 hr and some folks camped the night before. I'll check with Tim to be absolutely certain.

There are camp sites just very few. We even had a camp fire pit. Rained so we did not use it but it was there. I think that there was about 10 camp sites. Have fun. The course last year was great.

Last year it was a great event, family and group friendly, with a low-key feel. Lots of EZ-up tents along the start/finish. One of the 4-man teams were grilling some burgers in between laps, and a guy from another team bandaged up my bleeding knee for me. Very fun and friendly! Wish I could go this year, but I am racing Sunday in the NYS series.

Very fun race this year. Perfect weather, great course, and great casual vibe. I did this solo with a friend, and we managed 7 laps for totals of 54 miles and 6800 ft of climbing.

That was a cool race, I was feeling strong. Nice people around. I enjoyed every bit of it. The weather turned out to be better that I thought. In the shades it was cooler. I had a flat in the 8th lap right before the first pack of drops. It think it was a pinch flat. And in the 12th lap right after the second drop in the pack I swept off the bike and an endo to the side, Todd helped me out. That was a dangerous one. But joy is in the agony. My son rode with me in the 6th and 8th lap on a single speed. I always ride a single speed, this race I chose the geared bike, but I think single speed with the right gearing would have been much better-the course is tight and twisty. You kind of get lost in shifting up and down, makes you loose some momentum. 12 hour format is a real format for Mountain Biking.

Thanks to all cheering, riding and coming up there.

A great event - very laid back, great relaxed atmosphere and super course.
Unfortunately my knee flared up (patella tendonitis) so i didnt get to ride anywhere a near as long as I wanted too. Only managed about 5 1/2 hours, but it was a fun time nonetheless. Thanks to the organizers!! 🙂

Great job Emrah! I got in a few minutes before the cut-off without knowing I was second overall. They told me you had ten minutes on me and knew there was no way I was gonna make up that kind of time and threw in the towel. Congrats, you did great and deserved a better welcome crossing that finish line. Most people including me had left, but at least you had your family waiting. Putting up with heat and bugs while you were riding for almost 13 hours is an accomplishment too.

Enjoy your vacation!

The course was a perfect mix of climbs, tech, and just enough fire road to down some water and nutrition. Broke 4 spokes on my rear wheel during the first 4 laps, the first spoke broke in the first 10 minutes. Was really worried wheel wouldn't make it. Stopped after lap 4 and tightened all remaining spokes and also made a call to my wife who hadn't left yet(luckily) to grab an extra set of wheels. I added a spoke wrench and leatherman to take care of any future spokes, I had been bending them to break them off before. My wife was on her way up to the race but we live 2.5 hours away so i'd have to make it with what I had till then. Spent the rest of the race riding very conservatively and even after she arrived with the wheel I decided it wasn't worth changing cassettes and tires since I had made 3 laps without an incident. Had to avoid any hard hits with the rear wheel. I kept my nutrition and pace constant. On last lap I was pumped to get back in before 7pm so I could go out for one more lap and the win. This would not be. I went over the bars on a steep descent about 1.5 miles in. Blew my front tire right off the rim. Some blood, some swelling but I was in one peice. I made a super fast tube change and soldiered on. Hardly could sit down, saddle rash was getting to me. Charged up out of the saddle on the fireroad to finish my lap at 7:03pm! Missed it by 3 minutes! Very happy to have made 2nd place in CAT 2 19-39 with (10) 8 mile laps in my first 12 hour race! Thanks Tim and ESP for a great race!

Thanks, it was a great race Daniel. You kept moving. I have a endurance race in Turkey beginning of August, I was there to tune myself up. I could not get back in shape this year. I think this ride pushed me forward now. I know I will feel stronger in couple more days. Great job out there on a single speed? What was ur gearing?
If you like a good ride, I will do a long distance ride on Thursday early morning with a friend in Allamuchy. I am planning a 50mile ride, if you are interested it would great to ride with u again? Let me know.

Congrats out there, my wife told me you said hi before you left. Thanks,

Emrah
